I'm looking for some decent to good headphones at under say $50, but I might be flexible if they are good for the price.
Although they lack in volume (intended to be used with portable units), my sennheiser 480s are very good for about $40.

I'm gonna hop off the bandwagon and suggest a really cheap pair of Sony's... ;)
I actually am serious; go find one of the sets that plugs directly into your ear rather than having the little foamy pads that stick to your head. The deal is, you don't just "set" them in your ear, you find a small pair that can actually be inserted "into" your exterior ear canal.
If I had a camera, I'd show you the difference :)
And the difference IS amazing. Just having them "set" in your ear produces tinny sound and usually requires enough volume that they distort. But having them "in" your ear requires very little volume and produces an abundance of good quality sound. If you aren't careful, they could really damage your hearing if you crank them up high.
Not that I've tried every set, but I've so far found no other headphones (the external, rest-on-your-head type) that offer dynamic range and overall sound to beat that of my little cheapy Sony set. Especially at their $14.99 pricetag :D

Well, to be honest I was more looking for some external ones with the foam pads, and that ear damage kinda scares me.
How loud can yours go Pinky? I'll only be using these for late-night (after about 10:30).
Those Koss Porta Pro's look pretty nice so far.

Now wait, how can you be scared of ear damage from the small ones, which you then completely ignore with this statement:

The whole idea of ear damage is if you play them too LOUD, it's not the actual earphone sitting in your ear that does damage. The simple fact is that the small ones are VERY closely coupled to your ear canal, and as such you have the potential to really crank those puppies up to some unbelieveable volume levels -- which at the same time would provide you with some pretty easily-attained ear damage.
I had a pair of Kenwood's a while ago that were great they are rest on your head kind. But none of that compairs to what I have now I know they are way out of your price range ($160) but my Pioneer HDJ-1000's kick all of the other headphones butt except for maybe the $300 Bose or Sennheiser ones. Check out these (http://www.pssl.com/bsearchresults.tpl?command=search&db=search/maindb.txt&wostr_Categorydata=ACSH&int_Ordertype=num&int_Ordersort=1&int_Ordersdir=as&uid=2004012215145180&max=10) they are all DJ headphones and some of them are well within your price range and they all are probably better than anything you will find in your local wal-mart. I got my Pioneers from there they are very reputable.

I thought you meant that it was because they were so close that it would really easy too hurt them, nevermind my statement then. :)
Thanks for the link Sony, I'm looking at these right now.
