Hi, I've been reading articles recently in Computer Music magazine on building DAW computers. I'm a songwriter & want to record my songs using vocals, guitars, keyboards midi etc and I'm considering using Cubase SX with Groove Agent on XP Home.
*I was planning on building a DAW with Intel Pentium 4-2.6 Ghz with 800Mhz FSB.
*2x HDD Seagate Barracuda 5 80 Gb with 8 Mg cache. The 80 Gb doesn't seem to be available in IDE (only 120 Gb) would SATA be OK??? What's the difference between IDE & SATA??? and what do you do with the rest of the space on your 1st hard disc that only contains the operating system & software??? Why do both discs have to be the same size???
*RAM either Cossair or Kingston DDR 400 (2x512Mb) Not sure about the Bus speed???
*I'm thinking of getting a Asus motherboard with Intel chipset. Any recommendations???
*A Matrox graphics card (dual head) G400 -450. Any suggestions???
*An Antec Sonata Quiet 380W true power Mid tower
*Soundcard M-Audio Audiophile 2496. Perhaps I should be thinking along the lines of a M-Audio Firewire 410 to eliminate using a Behringer UB 1204FX Mixer.
*Midi Controller Edirol PCR50 or Novation Remote 25???
*Monitors Alesis M1 Active M2
Any suggestions would be welcome.

For your HD ? I am assuming you mean for RAID.

SATA is the new HD interface. If you are considering using SATA then I would suggest a MOBO then has it intergrated. If you are thinking of RAID 0 then you should know it is less reliabke then a single drive, although it performs better. If you absolutly cannot have any data loss then you should consider some of the other RAID options.
