i just purchased a powercolor 9600pro, 256 mb (good deal, 160, like a few months ago).

besides being a really bad overclocker, this card has artifacts at stock speed! i was play knights of the old republic, and i had artifacts all over the place after playin' for periods of more than a half an hour. sometimes they are sever (once or twice) but usually, just a flash here, and a flash there.

i also noticed that the card didn't come with the seperate molex power connecter that the 9500, 9700, and 9800 have. is this something that a bba card would have, and i could put on? would this help feed the memory chips the juice they need? i also am going to be fashioning some ghetto-fabulous ramsinks when i get the chance, and will make a gpu block for watercooling. case cooling is not a problem in my system, everything else was and is rock solid stable except for the card. ( it hasn't crashed, just some artifacting).

also, does anyone have any info on some voltmods for the 9600pro gpu, and maybe for the memory too? the chips are big ones, not those square ones, the honkers are rectangular, and i dunno, if component placement was an issue in putting the bigger memory chips on the card.

so yeah... molex power connecter info, and vmod info for mem and gpu would be greatly appreciated.

thx,
buck

That realy sucks, the 256mb versions arent worth dealing with. As of now, a 9600 would not see any performance difference between 128 and 256mb, and the 256mb verions come much lower clocked and overclock like crap. Also, the fact that you didnt get bga ram will severly lower your already lowered max oc. Personaly, I would take the card back, but its up to you.

For volt modding, look here: http://www.unoid.net/9600pro/index.php

About the power connector, the 9600's dont need them. Because they are .13micron, they use far less power and produce far less heat than other cards.

i know they use less power, but i've heard of other people doing this to their 9600s, and was wondering if anyone did it to theirs.
