View Full Version : PIII Motherboard
I am looking for a good PIII motherboard that can handle a 1000mhz prosessor(either flip chip or slot 1) and has 4x AGP capabilities. It has to be able to support a 133mhz FSB and I would like it to have 4 slots for memory expansion, but I can live with 3.

ASUS CUSL2 would do everything you want and seems to be a favorite here.

I would say get a BF6 or SA6R
BF6
Ok, a great board but with a few disadvantages:
1.) onboard ata33
2.) AGP 2X
Advantages:
1.) fsb settings up to 200MHz FSB
2.) 1 MHz increments in fsb
3.) 440bx chipset
4.) I think it is the greatest overclocking board out there.
With this motherboard you can really take your chip to the limit. The difference between AGP 4x and 2x is very small...i only notice about 4 fps in quake 3 less.
With a ata66/ata100/scsi card, you will be a okay. Raid cards are the best.
The 440bx chipset in my opinion and most others, is most stable compared to via. In my old motherboard (ASUS P3V4X it had the Apollo 133a chipet which is VIA) I could only get my Celeron II 700 to 877 (83fsb) no post @ 1050. Now with the ABIT BF6 i can post all the way up to 1.1ghz.
I think the only advantage to the via chipsets are that you can run your ram @ + or - 33mhz. WOOOWOOOHOOOHOO big deal....with a 1ghz cpu, your ram is fast enough @ 133, and if you o/c that chip, i am sure your ram will only take up to 166+-.
Just my .2$

I think he CUSL2 is better: it has al advantages you mention ewept it's an Intel 815e, the CUSL2-C has no onboard graphics (you'll hav a better card ourself I suppose), they support:
-ATA 100
-AGP4X
-3 DIMM slots
-FSB till ??? i don't know but it's high per 1 Mhz
and it's asus they have excellent products...

I like the Abit SH6, it has 133mhz bus support, agp4x, ata100, and it will take either a slot, or a 370(with a converter). it is stable, and will go to 250mhz fsb, and has all the bells and whistles that you'd expect from an I815E chipset board. It has served me well

Hey doc let me ask you a question that really pisses me off!
Why the hell do they support up to 200mhz fsb / 250mhz fsb if there is no way in hell they will ever run that???
My bf6 will never run 200mhz fsb because my pci will be something like 50.
and 250 fsb will be like REALLY HIGH!!!
Not to mention the chip will never take it.
I wish i had my P2 300 and put it to the test with this mobo, but it is in heaven now, served me well @ 375 2.5x 150. It was multiplier unlocked.
