SW-KOTOR locking up computer!

I need some help! I bought the game last night, and have been unable to play.

I can create a character, go through the opening cut-sceens, and start talking to the first guy, but as soon as the screen comes up where you have to select your first answer the screen just locks, and no amount of CNTL-ALT-DEL or ALT-F4 will get rid of it, or do anything. I have to hit the reset button on my PC. Comp is one in sig, vid card is VisionTek 9600 128Mb

Anyone see or hear anything about this? No other games have any problems. Not SWG, UT2k3, HL (+mods), BF1942 (+mods), etc, etc...

Just as a test did you try taking your machine to stock settings and then running it and see if it still does it? Very quick way to eliminate anything to do with your overclock as being the problem.

You need to get the game update. Open the game, and hit update. KotOR had a problem with the 9600 series of cards, and an update was released to fix the problem.

Yes, I toned back my CPU speed to default, and I always get all the available updates for games before I even attempt to run them.

Any other ideas?

Have you reinstalled it yet? maybe it was a bad install ;)

not yet, but I'm going to try as soon as I get home from work. I'll let you know if it worked or not.

It didn't work, 3 re-installs later it still locks up at the same part.

I'm taking it back.

go to the Bioware support forum if you still have the game. and look up the 9600 FIXs

I have a 9600 and yeah I was pretty ****ed when the game wouldn't work. I tried the Fixs and the game works great now.

Yeah I had a problem withr my 9600 also, but it worked after a fresh patching.

I downloaded the new Catalyst 4.1 drivers, now the game runs beautifly!!!

Has anyone experienced color distortions in game? On my friends computer, the lightsabers, shadows n some of the trees have distorted colors. This only occurs on KOTOR. He has downloaded the patch file but it still happens.

He is running at GeFX5200 128mb and a 1.7GHZ processor. Any help is appreciated. TIA.

Now that I have actually gotten past the first 30 seconds of the game, I can say no, I haven't seen anything wierd with the graphics, other than the fact that it looks soooo dang good! Then again, I haven't even seen a lightsaber in the game yet... (too much time spent on SWG, haven't gotten very far)
