I was at a computer show yesterday, and confirmed what some have been saying here, that some stores are pretesting cpu's, and selling off the junk.
What confirmed this to me, was a bunch of plastic packages with intel h.s/fans, and no chip! there is a place in the package for a flipchip, but no chip...just the heatsink...there was about ten packages like this.
I don't know if these were retail, or oem, but it was obvious that they were pretesting cpu's.
the packaging looked pristene...like untouched.
So you heard it from me...buy only pretested cpu's or a retail cpu from a reputable dealer, otherwise you might bet burned...and if you all want recomendations..goto PCNUT.COM, they will tell you if theirs will or won't, and they sell their "unclockables" as stated...if they don't clock, they will say so, and don't pawn off their undesireables to other stores.
If I like a company, I will say so in no uncertain terms, and PCNUT.COM is one that I recomend, along with MUSHKIN.COM. Both are good companies, and will go the extra effort to make you happy with your purchase.
Just a freindly warning from your Mad Clocker
