ok, If I have my facts straight, then the p3's are clocklocked in the core, and to run the chip, the mobo reads the chip's multiplier from said core, and drives the processor accordingly.

now, assuming all that's true, what's keeping someone from hacking up some kind of mobo-specific bios flash that ignored the chip's burned in numbers and did what the user wants?

because intels chips do the multiplying them selfs, even if you set your multiplyer to 2x with an 8x chip the chip will run at it's set multiplyer, also the same aplys for boards that don't support high ebough multiplyers, for example my board only has an 8x but my chip uses a 9x, the intel multiplyer lock issue is tired and old, I much doubt that there will be a work around and ,ost overclockers have accepted this and settle for the fsb way of doing it.
