getting excess thermal paste off cpu's

hey does anyone know a good way to get old paste off of a chip? I have some old stuff on my new chip, from my old crap ass fan and now i think it may be suffocating it from the new fan. Dont know, any info would be great, thx.

some kind of alchahol will do it, I use my mums nail polish remover as it cleans it off really well and evaporates quickly.

I do the same as Phil, only on the CPU core though of course :)

what about the heatsink, is it all good to put alcohol up on that thing! :) im guessing it is, its just metal, but o well im gonna give it a shot, gotta get this thing working smoooth.
