Gathering parts for my new system. I do have a question on the memory though. It is listed below. How does it sound so far, and what do you think I should change if possible? Keep in mind that I am not trying to spend an arm and a leg here, just keeping it at $450.00 or under.
If you think these choices are just plain stupid and want to suggest something completely different, go right ahead. I will take it into consideration.
Processor: Cost: $164.00:
Intel Pentium 4 2.4C
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=19-116-157&depa=1
(Long time AMD user. I want this system to last for a while though. I know new stuff is going to come out here within 6 months, but, this system will do what I need it to, and that's good enough for me.)
-------------------------------------------------------------
Memory: Cost: $87.00:
Geil Dual Channel 184 Pin 512MB(256MBx2) DDR PC-3200
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-144-512&catalog=147&depa=1
(Should the memory be adequate? i am wanting to OC a little, not a whole heck of a lot though, and I do not play a whole lot of games. I do alot of graphic/web design mostly.
Also, if anyone knows where I could find some cheaper dual channel DDR ram anywhere, let me know please. I am all about saving some money on this little project.)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Motherboard: Cost: $63.00:
MSI PT800 Chipset Motherboard for Intel Socket 478 CPU, Model "PT8 Neo-LSR"
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-442&catalog=280&manufactory=BROWSE&depa=1
Since I am not going to overclock alot, I did not want to spend 100+ on a motherboard. I think this will suffice. I have always had good luck with MSI.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Harddrive: Cost: $124.00:
Western Digital 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive, Model WD1600JD
http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=22-144-152&depa=1
(Why you ask? I know I am trying to save money, but the warranty for this OEM drive is 3 years. If I am not mistaken, retail is 1? I could be wrong, but I still think this is a decent deal. I like sticking with retailers I know. Newegg has NEVER screwed anything up I have ordered from them.)
