View Full Version : Which Socket 370->Slot 1 adaptor?

Well, almost all of the components for my new Celeron 600 system are finally winging (well, not quite, I'm on a budget, so they're having to stick to the ground...) their way here. Through a strange twist, I've got both a used cC0 '600 and a retail cC0 coming in- I plan on burning both in and seeing which runs higher, and likely selling the lower of the two with the Intel HSF (unless my parents want me to build a new computer for them ^o^).

But, one component that I haven't ordered/bought yet is the Socket 370 to Slot 1 adaptor. I have a board with both a slot and a socket on it, so at least initially I won't be needing it- but I will eventually, since there isn't any way to adjust the voltage on the board itself. As with all of the other components of this system, I'm interested in finding out which adaptor is the best value for me. I'd prefer to spend as little as possible, but I want one that will be stable up to around a gig- if either of my CPUs can go that high. Suggestions and comments based on people's experience with their adaptors will be greatly appreciated, as would suggestions as to where to get them cheapest (especially ones that might not show up on Pricewatch...). Thanks!

Basically there isn't a lot between them, the iwill, asus and abit are all about the same price, have pretty much the same features, and they are all pretty good quality, I would recomend either the asus s370-dl or s370-133 though, as I have heard reports of instabilities with the abit at higher clock speeds (not sure if this has been fixed by now or not) and the iwill needs modding to run in smp (not aplicable to you) basically go for a top name and one that has voltage selection and maybe bus speed selection, one other thing is the asus also supports the cryix s370, I think the others will as well but I know for sure the asus does

I have tried the IWILL II and ABIT III and the MSI Master Slocket ver 2 is more stable than both of them. Onvia.com has them pretty cheap and you get free shipping IF(once again IF) you chose the 4-6 day (or something like that) delivery.

I have both the Abit and the Asus S370-133 and I prefer the Abit because I did not have to mod my HSF to fit like I did on the Asus.
See the Pic... and you can tell how I had to mod it to fit the Asus card...

I've got the Abit !!!, and a Soltek SL02A++, and both work well.

The big things you need to look for are vcore adjustability, and Coppermine compatability. Any of the slockets mentioned in the thread thus far will work fine for you.

MSI 6905 Ver.2 Master. This is what I'm using. All the features mentioned above, and if you're working on a budget you can find some on the Sale/Trade boards generally around $10 or $15 bucks shipped. :)

Good topic Ashyukun! I have a question of my own that falls under this topic.

Which slotket would you guys choose from the following page?

Various Slotkets (http://www.googlegear.com/cgi-bin/xp/scan/se=Accessories/sf=category3/sp=comp3/ml=20/va=cat_name3=Accessories?ezPiA33s;;282)

Is the Soyo a bad choice? It sounds like from what I read here that I should go for the MSI.

As long as you get an fc-pga compatible with voltage adjustment and from a known brand (more likely to be better quality and they aren't that expensive) you are fine, a slocket is not like a motherboard, generally most have the same features and performance etc.. unfortuanately that page doesn't say which model the asus is so I would go for the msi

Thanks everyone! I ordered a MSI 6905 from Onvia earlier today, so with luck it will be in sometime next week (I'm not too worried about how long it will take to get here, since I'm gonna run at normal speed for a little while...) One thing I love about posts here, you get some more good places to check from computer parts! I don't think PriceWatch picks up on Onvia or the place superdisk posted a link to. This is just great when you're working under a budget.

I had a package slip from USPS waiting for me today- one of my C-600's is in! Now I just need the case to hurry up and get here! Waiting for parts sucks :/ But hopefully I won't have to wait much longer! ;D

Well, waiting on parts is a bit better than waiting on money to order parts, and then wait on parts.....

Keep us posted on how you do w/ the C II 600.....

Soltek.

My cC0 Celly 566 hit the Gig mark (POST & 98 boot floppy menu) in a soltek. I could only get 103Mhz on my Abit.

Just a word of advice...

With this Abit, I can't make it get a voltage higher than 1.85V without refusing to POST. That's sort of annoying, since it is impossible for me to climb to the top of Mount 1 Ghz without giving the Celly more voltage. I've considered replacing it with a MSI 6905Master just to get the damn 1 ghz. :(

you would bother doing that just so you got a few more points in sandra?

Depends on what you wanna get outta your system.

I have 3 Slockets: An Iwill SlocketII that i don't trust, as my old mobo blew a MOsfet and took out my CPU when it was on this slocket.

An Abit Slotket!!! Bought from the same place as my replacement mobo. Could only get Windows stable at 808(95FSB) at 2.0v, wouldn't POST at over 103MHz.

And my Soltek- I love this slocket! I got my c566 to post and load the win 98 boot menu at 1.8v at 1003MHz. (currently stable in win98/2k at 850 at 1.8v)

I wanted at least 850 from the chip, the Abit prevented me from getting this. £15 for a new Slocket was worth it IMO.

In response to your query Superdisk, Personally I would go for the Soyo, but only 'cos I've got a Soyo Mobo - I've heard that the same type of slocket as the mobo work best together. In the UK, tho there's no-one I've found who has a Soyo, so I went for the Soltek, on advice from Mr B and others on the Forum.
