I received a cpu, supposed to be a celeron 300 A. Are these chips marked w/serial #, year and country of mfg. This chip has no markings??

Odd....is it a slot 1 or socket 370 chip? If it's a slot 1 like my old 300A, look for a small white rectangle on one end of the board. the spec numbers are there.

I never owned a PPGA chip, but I'm assuming they got labeled similar to the old Pentium I chips.....there's got to be numbers on there somewhere....is there a sticker covering part of the underside of the chip?? My old P75 had a sticker on it, that covered the info.

(oops, I stand corrected...that was the P233MMX chip that had the sticker on it...the P75 is sitting here in front of me, no sticker on it. The 233 is now in the Dell P75 I gave my niece for X-Mas)

It's a slot one. Has 4 screws from the back side to hold hsf. I see absolutly nothing to id this chip.

Ok, lets see.....*opening box my 300A is stashed in*....

On the BACK of the board, on the left hand edge, is there a long white rectangle, with writing in it?

Mine does, and reads;

08471506- SL2WM
300A/66 COSTA RICA

Actually, I just thought of something else....Are you sure it's not a P//? the P// is labeled on the top edge of the SECC casing. check for that, as well.

The puter i'm using is a PII 300. I just removed the side cover and shure enough there's all that info, right on top. The only place that's marked is a lable on the fan hub [PC 100 Pentium II]. Other than that, there is nothing.

If you'd care to post the info that you've found....I might be able to help you decipher it, if you'd like.

Sorry to be in the wrong place.

OK, after scratching my wiskers a bit, i disasembled this thang. After removing the board from the plastic case, All the info is there. SL2WM-costa rica
08470594......NU012899. I'll be using a golden orb,will it be best to forget all this plastic? Thanks for the help.

Hmmmm....that's curious. SL2WM is a Celeron "S" code. I don't see any listings for a SL2WM P// in the databse, or intel's "Sspec" page either.

If those numbers are correct (there is a P// "SL2W8") that chip is a Celeron 300A, all right.

A couple of important numbers gleaned from the info you posted;

08470594;
0= Costa Rica, manufacturing plant
8= year of manufacture, 1998
47= week of calendar year made, 47th week of 1998
0594= batch code

I'm not familiar with the NU012899 and how it breaks down.

You mention "plastic"....there is a plastic "shell" around the chip board, then? I believe only the P// ans P/// having this, but those numbers look Celeron to me, especially that "S" code.

I used to run an Orb on my Celeron 600's, but the faster I got them to go, the less the Orb was able to cool them. They're ok to a certain point, after which they just can't cool well enough. Keep an eye on the cpu temps, if you have the wherewithall to do so with your system. The faster you go, and with intel chips, the more vcore (voltage applied to the cpu) added, the hotter things get.

I replaced the Gorb, and the intel hsf on my P/// 600E with Alpha coolers (Celeron s370/ Alpha PEP66T, and P/// got an Alpha P3125) and have never had problems with high temps again...yet *knock on wood*.

Go to the "Cooling" section for more info on these, and other heatsink/fans that can be used with the P//, if you decide to upgrade someday from the Gorb.

I got my Celeron 300A to run at 450 MHz at default voltage, 474 at 2.1v, and I played around with it at 504 MHz at 2.3v for a bit, but got bored and put the P/// back in.

Have fun with it. this was the first really overclockable chip that intel made. A good percentage of these would do 450 at default voltage...mine did.

Good luck, hope the info helped.

SL2WM is one of the 300a's that I had that cruised at 504 MHz. Used a Globalwin dual 6K to keep her cool @ 2.2v

My 300A is also a SL2WM also made in costa rica, and it will also cruise at 504...I had it post @ 520 or so, but it wouldn't load windoz...but it never had any special cooling...just an old global win h.s. that only had 1 fan, and I added another, but they are chinsey little things....so I know the chip can go further, but after playing with a PIII 600 that is stable at 956, the 300A was boring, and went back into the old chip box.
With a costa rica 300a, you should get 504 stable....at that time, costa rica had the best yeild, and produced better clockers.

Let me correct my last post. Here's the info.

08470594 - SL2WM
300A / 66 Costa Rica

Yes it is a 300 A. The # NU012899 is also on this board. I have an Abit BH6 motherboard, and still need a few other components .May be a while 'till i get it together. I'm sure i'll have more questions at that time.

Without the the support from overclockers.com, i'd never attempt this project. This is a great site, (even for an old nubie like me), keep up the good work!!

Thanks Mr B

BTW....no problem. You can't learn, if you never ask the questions.

I have these same chips. sl2wm and the BH6 board.
Use pc- 100 memory. upgrade your bios to ver. ss for the latest cpu and compatability. set the cpu to run @ default voltage and set the fsb to 100, enable turbo and sit back .

The SL2W8, which I also have is a P!!300, which I think is really a remarked 450.

SL2WN is the slt1 333a celeron. 466\512 no problem.
Great motherboard , fun chip. A quality agp card like an Asus v3400 or a viper550 wouyld be nice additions.
