View Full Version : Help in Removing Intel Stock FAN, real Pain
I have a Intel Stock Fan RETAIL that I got with my Celeron 700 and now I got a P3 733 and in order to replace it, I have to take out the stock intel fan (with the cheap heatsink), but it seems thanx to intel, removing the stock Fan from the FC-PGA slot of the motherboard is a real Pain in the ass, I have to push the damm steel thing down with my thumb and then use a screwdriver to push outward, but it seems hopeless and the bloody thing is still stuck there. And I do not exactly want to damage the Celeron's core by pressing any harder downward with my thumb on the steel thinge..
I have a sore Thumb and still the bloody thing wont come out, its really, really, really, getting on my nerves, can anyone please help me how to remove it easily?

small needle nose pliers is what I use....if you can grab both sides at the same time with 2 pair it applies equal pressure. It's almost impossible to do with fingers and using a screw driver to force something on the board nor near it isn't a good idea. One slip and you lose a processor or mobo.
Hope this helps.

Go to the start page @ www.overclockers.com , them look under "tips and techniques" . Then proceed to the "cpu reviews and tips" ; there you'll find some VERY helpful info !
I personally push on it with my finger, and than take a screwdriver with the other hand, and push that little piece of annoying metal (the one that you push on with your finger) away from the chip.
