I have a 9800 pro 256MB and recently it has started flashing little lines of color on my screen. For instance if I click and drag an icon on my desktop all over the place, it leave a trace that will not go away untill i load a program. At first, I thought it was merely overheating from being on so long, but I turned off the computer and let it cool for 4 hours. I just came back and the little lines are still being formed. This card is not overclocked. Does anyone have any ideas on what this is and what caused it? Has this happened to anyone else?

I have something you could try that I have had good luck with fixing similar problems on computers.Over time the agp connections get corrosion or dust in them and have a poor connection and have similar display corruption.I just did this to my friends computer that I just put a new vid card in 8 months ago and it fixed his.

Take the card out and rub a standard red pencil eraser over the agp contacts on each side of the card till they are nice and shiney. Then blow off the erasor dust and wipe the contacts with some rubbing alcohol and let it dry thouroughly.

Then plug the card into the agp slot and then unplug it and put it back in again(to get a clean connection with the agp slot). Then see how it works.

Good luck.I hope this fixes your problem.

I tried what you described but it did not change anything? Is this the end of the line for my $500, 6 month investment?

Sorry to hear that.Only way to be sure is to try the card in another system. If it does the exact same thing then the card has expired. If it works ok in other system something in the current system is causing the problem.

Looks like the card is simply broken then. Unless anyone else has any ideas, I guess I will just junk this one and save for another.

I don't know the warranty on them, but you might still be able to RMA it to ATI.

It is a Sapphire card and I removed the thermal pad in favor of some AS3. Removing the heatsink voids their warranties.

Is there no way to put it all back the way it was? If so, I would reccomend doing that, 500 bucks is just too much to throw away.

well, I did not buy a warranty, it was an OEM card, and I don't remember where I bought it at. This poses a few big problems. I might be able to dig up the receipt and be able to return it to them, but I doubt it. I gotta try to I guess.

Most OEM's through Sapphire carry a one year warranty , same with ATI OEM's .
Go to the Sapphire or ATI sight (or both) and give them the serial # off the card and they will be able to tell you if the card is under warranty . But Iam pretty sure they will ask for a reciept of some kind , but sometimes they just go by the serial # depending on how new that production of card is .

I have a Sapphire 9700NP OEM card (from newegg) in a game server and checked ATI's site for any warranty (with serial #) ; and found out it was covered for a year ander ATI's OEM policy .

For a $500 v/card I sure would want to give it a h3ll of a try and check .
