I have a P3-700E oc'd to 933Mhz at the default 1.65v core voltage. It is very stable but runs a little hot with my Gorb cooler. Idle is around 32^C and stressed can hit as high as 55^C. Is this a concern or normal?

Thanks, olias

It's not uncommon. I have seen some chips that don't like the high 50's for temps, and can become a bit unstable. A better cooler is recommended- the orb is not really suited for overclocking anything except the most docile chips.

Yarr, Tim- is tellin' you true, that GORB's gotta go. 55C is dangerous for a P3E. I murdered one by letting its internal temp briefly reach 54C, a total of five times. Took her five months to die, yet die she did. Buy an Alpha or GlobalWin, and mount that GORB on your stateroom bulkhead. I'd toss it over the leeward rail myself. Yet they are pretty little devils, it can't be denied.

Yeah, I had my C2 600 running at 2v - 112mhz FSB and it took it for about two months of peaking at 55C then I started getting the blue screen of death, so I cranked it back to 100mhz FSB with turbo-933mhz. And the problems disappeared. 55C is just too much.

I personally never let my little Celly run over 40c. Actually, she's only gotten that hot once. At 994 MHz under load she runs at 37c. Cool that darlin' down :)

Very true. However, the Gorb doesn't have to get pitched overboard.......pull the fan out and it makes a bitchin' lookin ashtray...j/k

No, actually, these can be modified to cool the GPU on your vid card, with a bit of work. You will lose a PCI slot or two though......

or, um...You could..no, wait a min....aw heck...pitch it overboard.

I put an Alpha PEP66T on my Celeron 600/slocket, and it did wonders for my temps. The gorb is back in it's box for the day (God forbid) I ever need it in an emergency (ie., the fan on the Alpha snuffs it).

(*Sharp gasp of air -before hiding behind the back of chair*) Don't scare me. Fan failed with my old Celly. Luckilly MBM & SHDN killed my PC in 10 seconds. Although methinks could've been one part in it's downfall (although Mosfet popping is the main cause).

If you get an Alpha, be wary of bending the clip. I bent mine while removing the 'Sink, and now it don't sit straight... I'm having to use my lapped GlobalWin FKP32 until I can find a replacement clip, or a new 'Sink. I'm not paying another £40 for one.

Ok, thanks for your input... I ordered a PEP66T. Should work out good with slot adapter and I hope to get it under 50^C at full load.

Lap the cpu and heatsink properly, apply Arctic Silver (properly), and with a bit of luck, you might even get it down to under 40c under load. Thats right about where my C II runs. Of course, case fans have a bit to do with that as well.....

Thanks Mr. B and I agree with you 0 on case air flow thing. I have an Antec SX830 case... check out the review:
