View Full Version : P3 600 @ 800
What are the odds of me buying 2 pentium 3 600E's OEM that can do 800 easily at 133 FSB. I plan to buy from Krex direct, if anyone has ever heard of them. Oh and by the way anyone know of a good P3 heatsink under $20.

I have done similar things with two p3 600e and two celmine 600, the p3 easily hit 800 with golden orbs and arctic silver, the celerons hit 900s just as easily, I feel that you should have no problem getting these numbers if you have a quality board/heatsink/compound.
Good luck.
I plan to stick them in my Tyan Tiger 100. And as far as the heatsinks I am looking for a good one. Any suggestions guys?
Beware of Krex- I'm not saying not to deal with them, but they have been known to "inflate the truth" a little on some things.
Just noticed that you said Tiger 100- be sure to go to Intel's site and make sure the chips you have in mind will do SMP. The 600 is the only PIII that had a version that won't run in dual (SMP) mode. This applies to flip chips only- all slot one's will do SMP.
I know of several folks who have had this problem after purchasing 600's!

I've never dealt with Krex personally, but it wouldn't hurt to check the Reseller ratings (http://www.resellerratings.com) and see what others have to say. If you have a good experience, take the time to post it there. If not, post it there too so others can avoid them.
My $0.02
I plan to buy slot 1's because my mobo is dual slot 1 and I don't want to have to buy sloket adaptors. Hmmmm. After reading some of the things on resellerratings, I am gonna look at different places to buy from. I plan to buy them early next week, so I have time to make a decision, I just hope both of them can handle 800.

Maybe I missed something here... but werent you originally considering using celeron II's SMP overclocked? If so, it cant be done as far as I know. Last I heard, it was well nigh impossible to SMP Celly II's.
Yep you must have missed something, because I have never owned a celeron. nor did I ever plan to buy 2 for my SMP system. I was trying to get 2 P III 450's @ 600, but I couldn't find another 450 that would do 600 so I sold my 2 450's and now I am going to buy 2 600E's and hopefully they will reach 800.
Atually I think the odds are pretty good at getting two PIII 600e's to that will do 800mhz. Pretty much all you need with those chips is PC 133 ram and your off to the races. My 600E ran at 840mhz (140 fsb) no problem. and that was on a BX board. I know if I had a mother board with an 815 or VIA chipset with the 1/2 AGP multiplier, I could have took it alot further. Those chips rock!
