Well winter is ½ over and I’m back to designing my carputer (PC in a car) So far I’m looking at having a Micro ATX mobo… Althalon XP MP CPU (a little aberration) other things that may be added but are not required are CD-RW/DVD slim line, 802.11 dot something. The only thing holding me back right now from starting this is a display. I’m thinking of using a 7” maybe 10.4” LCD that’s VGA but they don’t come cheap. (Anyone use these?)

What I would like from this great forum and its people is your input.
1) What make of HDD is generally cooler. (40-120 Gig)
2) How can I keep nasty car vibration and bumps from destroying my HDD.

My opinion is:
1) To use my existing western digital HDD 40Gigs. Mainly because it’s older and if it gets destroyed it’s not something I’m gonna cry over. Also if I do upgrade down the road the cooler the better.

(This is where I need your help the most)
2) Some how suspend the HDD with bungee cords or something keeping in mind space is limited like 8”x 8” and for the big bumps have foam for it to hit against. If someone can add to this or think of something better by all means post.

The best part of this is I'll be able to say I have a 2000 Sunfire for a case.. :D

carputer = neatO name

just throw in a duron... cheap... also you need to get that thing folding = folding @ 140KM/H -> = cool - instead of expenive MP chip

Well I may use a duron.. It's just that I might get an MP cheap from a friend. I'd like to have lots of power to Rip and burn CD's... yeah a duron would be fine.

Laptop HDDs have much better specs for thermal, environmental, operational shock and vibration tolerance. It's a bit more expensive, but it will survive better.

The problem there is for the cost of a 20Gig laptop HDD I can get a 80-120Gig desktop one. Plus I'd need a conversion kit. I can't bring my self to pay that much for that little..
Hmm... I'll have to look into the specs and see if it is worth the money but I don't think so.
