i notice that u manage to get your celeron 600 to 1050 and was wondering how on earth u manage it. i currently manage to clock it mine to 930 MHz only using the Golden Orb cooler. if i do get a better cooler, will the CPU be able to be clocked higher? what cooler do u recomand? how much different is there if my celeron runs at 930 and 1050MHZ? can u benchmark the cpu at both this speed using 3D Mark 2000 or 2001 and let me know the result. i'm not worried about the graphics card but rather want to know how much differents only. hope u can help me out. thank you in advance.

when I first got my cCO 600 I bought a FOP 32-1 for it and this let me go up to 927mhz with just 1.75v, the next option on my board was a 112mhz fsb for 1.01ghz, this was my target but no amount of voltage would get me there, so I bought some Artic silver and this allowed me to pst at this speed with 1.8v but would only get into windows with 1.9 but would soo crash, I decided this was my limit for voltage and decided to give burning in a try, I started at 600mhz with 2v and for about 3 months ran the usual seti, prime95, sandra etc.. (not 24/7 though only about 8-10hours a day) after 3 months of this I checked to see how low I could get the voltage, I could now get up to 750mhz with just 1.3v and only needed 1.55v for 900mhz to be stable, this had made 1.01ghz stable for a while at 1.9v but became unstable (only evident in prime95) after a while so I fugured this was a heat issue, I planned on lapping my heatsink but until I get the sand paper I am currently burning in at 2.2v at 600mhz. I would say that the Gorb is barely enough for 900mhz and for some people it isn't enough, if you want to get into the ghz reagon you will need something better.
the speed differance between 930 and 1050 around 10% but in games where the graphics card is the bottleneck you won't see any differance and where it isn't you will still only get about a 5% increase, so for instance in quake 3 instead of getting an 80fps frame rate you may get around 85fps or so which is not worth the cost of a better heatsink

I'd have to agree with Phil on every thing he said but one item. I'd get a better cooler than that Gorb, regardless of how fast you can get it going. GlobalWins FOP-32/38/etc... can be found for around $20 to 25 plus shipping all over the place. You might even find a local vendor that sells the "kind" toys for us o/cers. I found a guy locally near me, has a little PC sales/repair thing going on, unfortunately for me, all he sells for hsf's are ThermalTake products (ie, Gorbs). You might find someone near you that sells Alphas and GW's. These really do cool so much better than the Gorb. I replaced the Gorb on my C II with an Alpha PEP66T, with the 60x60x10mm YS tech fan, and my temps dropped considerably, and I managed a couple more MHz worth of FSB, in the bargain. Alphas are a bit better than the GlobalWins, but also cost a bit more, as well.

You didn't mention what you had for a vcore setting. If memory serves, that mb will allow up to 10% over default, or 1.87v. what are you running?? Are you maxed out here yet, or is that 930 at default voltage?

Bear in mind one thing,....not all cpu's will overclock to the same numbers. Each one is different. Some will really fly, and some are absolute dogs. 930 from a 600 is pretty good. the 600 Celeron I'm selling to a co-worker (I'm building a rig around it for him) maxed out at 945MHz, no matter how many volts I put thru it.

Get back to me with your vcore setting, and we'll got from there.........

Whattup boyzzzz...
As long as we are hovering comfortably over the subject of celly 600 overclocking, Id like to ignore the fasten seatbelts sign and get up and ask you how you hit 1050. I am running 930 with mine at 1.75v, with a slotket II and a gorbie. I am running a BX6-2. I just bought 256mb of kingston PC133, and decided to try it at 112mhz FSB (1008) it boots to the splash screen and locks. Sometimes it will boot to windows, but I get errors with loading proggies like Internet Exploder and WeCQ. Any ideas on whats bugging out? Im pretty sure the chip will do 1008, and its not the memory most likely...

Try bumping your vcore to 1.8v...but don't go any higher without an alpha, or GW fop, this might load win...but watch the temps though.

Thanx for the input people. i'm running the CPU at 930 MHz at 1.95v. after what i have read, i realize that the chip might burn out pretty soon. your have mention that so many types of cooler but half of which i cannot find here where i'm staying. i'm from Malaysia and here we don't have that many type or none at all. anybody want to do me the favour of sending one of those alpha cooler? i have already flashed the BIOS with the lastest one and i'm using a converter card. my MoBo is a slot - 1. i'm also using the converter card to help increase the Voltage. i believe i can raise the voltage to about 2.2 - 2.5 v. when i run 3D games, the temp. get up to about 55 - 65 C which i believe is abit high. furthermore it's freaking hot here in Malaysia so if anybody can help with me with the cooler thing, it would be much appriecated.

I wouldn't expect a chip to burn out at under 2v, it's only when you reach 2v and over that it becomes a problem, I am aurrently at 2.3v at 600mhz burning in in an attempt to get the voltage at 1.01ghz down from a.9v as this gets quite warm
