Is there any way to use a program or some type of BIOS flash to oc an OEM machine, without knowing the mobo type/name, or could u possibly swap the bios (too cheap to buy a new mobo) with one from a similar processor to work without ant conflicts???
I know that HP is guilty of locking the bios chip so that it can not be flashed with the normal MB bios. The only option there would be to replace the bios chip with the appropriate one. (I tried to flash an HP with an Asus P2B MB and it was not willing to accept the normal Asus bios.)

you bring up a very good point here Tim. Since the Bios is specifically designed for the mfg, can you find the brand of mobo and replace the bios with a compatable "mobo brand" bios?
What I mean is.....if ASUS built a mobo for Dell.....but put a Dell bios on it.....could you replace the bios and find out you have a P3V4X or something similiar?
my micron board (bcm dr737) was guilty of the same thing. i flashed with the bcm latest bios and it never posted again, even with cmos cleared.

But how about swapping the BIOS itself??

bump....
In theory I would think that you could put the original MB bios back and have it work. It's also possible that the oem could have done other modifications that could keep it from working, but it would be difficult to tell.
The only way to know for sure would be to try it.
