ok, so just a couple of days ago I install cs to play with some friends. as soon as I try to play, it crashes to the desktop as soon as I start the game. but usually in the middle of connecting to a server it gives me a couple of weird memory related errors, just now it said I was out of virtual memory and that windows was going to increase the pagefile etc etc. or whatever it says exactly.

its said the error while Ive had a bunch of programs open before, not just while gaming. This has all worked before no problems, but when I log out and log back in, or restart the comp it, the ocmputer beeped and told my pagefile was too small or was not sharing or whatever. Now it just beeps and hangs for a while, so in order to get to the desktop i hit ctrl+alt+dlt. This isnt related, I hope, but it also takes like 3 minutes to get to the log on screen, I only noticed this as of late.. really freakin weird.

But anyways, I have constantly tried to fix my pagefile issue and it doesnt work, 0MB all the time, wtf? Ive read around and found out that I need 1.5 x of my total physical ram. So i messed around with that and the same beep occured while I was trying to log in, and same errors happened when I tried to game. And it still says 0MB for my pagefile, Im sure Ive dont everything right, but the pagefile just isnt changing from 0mb. I dunno what to do, can someone shed some light?

specs:
Gateway
PIII 600mhz
384MB RAM
80GB HDD (3 partitions- 30,30,15)
5GB HDD

if anyone can help, thatd be great. I really dont feel like formatting :(

EDIT: btw Im running Windows XP Pro

what os is it running??
Heres an article that might help
http://www.petri.co.il/pagefile_optimization.htm
You might try this
The page file has become corrupt, possibly at a bad shut-down. In the Virtual memory settings, set to have no page file, exit, shut down the machine and reboot. Delete PAGEFILE.SYS (on each drive if more than just C:), set the page file up again and reboot to bring it into use.
Hope it helps

I had similar problems with BF1942 until a bug fix came out. Make shure your RAM is good.

thanks, I looked through that article deeman.. nothing I hadnt known or tried. still same ol ****. then I tried the other thing u suggested, selected no page file for C.... rebooted and it started alot faster than before. tried to fine pagefile.sys to delete but the file couldnt be found. So i just went in a put in the correct values for the page file, the numbers which ive been using, and rebooted to find that it started slow as hell like it did before.. paging file error and 0MB paging file, still.

im getting ****ed off, maybe because when weird **** like this happens Im clueless as to what I should do to fix the problem, besides format. only me.....only ****ing me :(

anyways if you guys have any more ideas, im all for it. im gonna get some sleep for now, nite.

Are you running the intel application accelerator? if so, update it. I have had this same problem because of the intel accelerator on many systems...

ok to shed some light for everybody he was having a floppy conflict and because of this a componet of installshield was disabling his swapfile here is the fix given by jalex on another forum
open regedit, go to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/CurrentControlSet/Services/TPkd.

If you don't have the TPkd key, then this is not the cause
of your problem.

In the right hand panel you will see a key called "Start".

Modify the value of "Start" to be 3 instead of 0. It was 0
in his. This modifies Installshield to be "on demand"
instead of "running".

That cleared up the conflict with the floppy, which in turn
allowed XP to load/create the paging file.
