9700 Pro vs 9800 Pro vs 9800 SE Pro

I have been wanting to upgrade my TI 4200 for awhile now, and I finally have the cash but am a little confused as to the difference in what is what. All of my info is coming from newegg.com, cause it seems they beat all others by a good margin, and Tom's Hardware.
1) Is the PowerColor 9700 Pro going to give me at least close to the same bench marks that the ATI 9700 Pro did?
2) Toms hardware shows that in alot of the test, the 128 MB 9800 Pro beat the 256 mb 9800 Pro. Is that a misprint? If not, how can that be?
3) Is the 9800 Pro worth the 100 bucks more than the 9700 Pro?
4) Is the 9800 Pro SE better than the 9800 Pro?

no the 9800se is not better than the 9800pro. I wouldnt trust tomshardware. IDK if its worth the extra cash, I havent played on a comp with a 9800pro. BTW i got a powercolor 9700pro and i love it :D

The 9800se always has half the pipelines than the 9800pro, and usualy has half the memory bandwidth because it doesnt use 256bit memory. Stay away from it.

More video memory is not always better, as it overclocks less, and when using DDr2 as in the 9800's case, it has higher latency.

If you want my opinion, grab the 9700pro, its pretty close to the 9800, as in within 10%, and will last you almost as long.

Thanks for the reply's. Will the PowerColor or Saphire work as well as the original ATI? I know whith NVidia, most Manufacturers are about the same. I have no clue about the ATI though. I am going with ATI this time because you seem to get more bang for your dollar as compared to the NVidia chip set. Odd that NVidia doesn't get as good of reviews as ATI, )or bench marks), but cost more.

unless the 9800se softmods to 9800, the best choice would be a 9700pro or 9800

ATi holds extremely high quality standards for their partners. Stock, each card is the same as with any other brand. Some, however, will offer better memory, etc occasionally
