I bought a pentium3, 800 mhz, 100 fsb, boxed.
I was thinking to buy a new heatzink & cpufan for better cooling.
But Im having trouble to remove the original heatzink and fan.
Does any have some tips how too remove the box??

Another thing, what specific do you do
when you put on some cooling-glue??

I used a set of pliers and ripped the hell out. HAHA, that was with my previous P3 800EB chip and succeeded no problem... started ripping out slowly, by ripping out the plastice pins on the plastic cover w/fan that is attached on the back of CPU Heatsink. Ripped one pin by one and somehow twisted it and got the plastic cover off. I forgot which order.. because it's been long time. Then ripped 2 plastic arms that were attached on the heatsink and CPU cartridge. Once I ripped thoes arms off, it was done removing factory Heatsink from the CPU cartridge.

Before installing a new heatsink, be sure to apply very think coat of CPU thermal paste(it's a white color) between your CPU core and heatsink. Be absolutely sure that contact area of cpu core and heatsink is perfectly even, nice n tight. Another solution to this is instead of using CPU thermal paste, you can use Artic Silver thermal compound or epoxy. They work better, but they are for the permanent bond, so if you gonna use this, then get a real good heatsink that you will be keep using. I think CPU thermal paste cost $1.50. Artic silver of two tubes of 15gram cost $14.95. Git Luck!!!

well....actually artic silver grease is not perm.....it's only thermal compound. It's also at least 40% better than that shack stuff. The only thing perm is the artic silver epoxy is perm. And you MUST use both if you don't want to use clips. You can NOT use the epoxy as thermal grease. I recommend Artic Silver and the clips personally. The expoxy is mostly used for GPU's.

You're right about the Epoxy to be used on GPUs.. sorry!! :)

Is this a slot 1 or s370 chip??

If it's a slot 1, and IF you haven't chopped off the retaining clips....., there's a really great post in the "Tips and Techniques" on the front page. Skip posted this one quite a while ago. Using the technique outlined in this post, you can remove those plastic retainers using a case screw, and it doesn't damage them at all, if done correctly. Very, very easy to do this, too.

Best part is, if you don't damage them, you can re-attach the intel piece at a later date, if you ever decide to sell the cpu.

go check it out.....
