View Full Version : Are the new P3 700's not overclockable???
I mistakenly posted this question in the motherboard forum, so let me repeat the question here.
I have heard, from someone who sells pretested processors, that the newer P3 700 processors are not overclocking very well. Is that the experience of others?
And if so, what currently sold P3 processors are still giving good results?

Almost all P3 700s should overclock fairly well. and depends what you mean by how far to overclock.. give us rough OC range.. you mean like 700 to 933 or 700 to a Gig or more? Most of 700E's should at least reach 933 and some of the cC0s should do over a Gig. Have I answered what you're looking for?

Can anyone help me find any good graphics or pic that symbolizes my name "MilkPowder"?? I want to put one below my name but I can't seem to find it.. :( give me whatever you think is good and I'll use it.
MilkPowder,
Maybe a "Carnation Powdered Milk" can from the first half of the century, ...but I don't know where to find a picture, ... sorry.
Speed? 933 sounds nice. I'm on an abit bx6 R2 with geforce 2, and water cooling.

Carnation Powdered Milk stuff sounds pretty feasible.. lol.. too bad, can't find the picture.. if someone else finds it, let me know.. I'll take a look.. heehee..
you're on watercooling?.. that's good, well.. looks like you know what you're doing so.. i say you take a shot!! I have mine with custom air cooling and tried to get it upto 155mhz fsb@ 1085mhz, booted no prob.. but not too stable when running Sisoft Sandra.. had to back down to 153mhz. by the way, mine is cC0 stepping made in Costa Rica.
Any opinion on slot1 vs fcpga?

PS I checked. They still sell Carnation Powdered Milk at the grocery stores, so you could buy some and take a picture I guess?

Slot 1 vs. FCPGA is really your call... they both seem to be good overclockers as well. I saw a very good explanation on this similar topic posted by Dave B. hmm.. too bad, I wasn't able to retrieve it. :( FCPGA is now more popular and widely used. From what I have heard, its little disadvantage is that they tend build heat more than the Slot1 version because it's sitting right on the mobo meaning more higher temperature contact. but then.. you they have plenty of good cooling like Alpha Pep66. They both should have the same performance in mhz to mhz comparison. There are lots more issue between these two type of CPUs.. but I think they both are good. I'd probably buy FCPGA one next time.

It's possible that they aren't getting good yeilds out of their plants..and using the best for the higher numbers, and the weaker ones are being used as 600's, 700's yatayata....but it could also be that the "pretester" got a bad batch..or a low yeild one....if it helps any mine was made in the philipines...not too sure about the week/yr, though. too many factors to guess at
