View Full Version : 486 overclocking
I successfully overclocked an Intel 486 SX/2 from 25 mhz to 40 mhz. That was too easy, for cooling....no heatsink, a fan running over the surface. The BIOS says that it's running at 8 mhz, but tests show that it's actually at 40. If only there were some reason to overclock it....
I guess those things have a helluva potential :D hehehehheehehheheheheeh That is great...

I have some dodgy ass 486/33 dell sitting here.
How do I overclock this...bios or jumpers?
I used some dip switches on the board, but that's just mine. HP Vectra.

dont you just hook up some jumper cables from 6volt lawnmower batter to the isa slot?

think about that reasonably guys......that's over 60% increase! He'll be ready for UT with another 10%! hehe
you kidding man? no heat sink? None? How long did you run it? It should've made it to well over 200 in about 45 seconds!
I wish I could show you a pic of how I had it set up, along with some 16 bit benchmark screenshots, but I got bored one day and in a fit of sheer idiocy decided to rip it apart (including peeling off the hard drive's cover). When it was running, it wasn't very hot to the touch. I guess I'll just wait until my school has their annual crappy computer giveaway (I'll get about 10 macs to destroy or sell on ebay or something). I think they're going to have pentiums this year! I can only hope that the motherboard will let me have my fun.
