Well, this is more of an general discussion but since its under the AMD CPUs topic, its gotta be an AMD most defineatly!

AMD Athlon64 FX-55 o/ced to 3GHz
nForce2 250 Socket 939 Design Motherboard (not Abit :( since the nVidia breakaway :( )
4GB PC4400 (4 X 1GB Corsair XMS Pro)
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
Creative Audigy II ZS Platinum
8 X 72GB WD Raptors in RAID0 & 1 250GB Maxtor for Backup!

Yeah, a fairly nice rig by all means.

Mine is the one in my sig with 1 GB PC-3200 Hyper X, SAPPHIRE RADEON 9600XT Video Card, 256MB DDR

i would pick a athlon 64 but with no softwear out to get the real power out of it ill stick with my 2800 for now but as soon as there is a 64 bit windows and some app's ill look in to switching over

my dream computer would be one that would never need upgrading, could be ocd to hell and back, would always be top of the line, and would serve me mocha capochinos in the morning when i wake up.

now that would be a dream computer

How bout somebody shove a billion bucks in your pocket and force your butt to always have the best untill you die from radiation cancer from too much computing :D

Imagine throwing away your current hardware and replacing it with something better every day :)

maybe I am being silly but who would want to do that it would require you to back up and reinstall everything on your system everyday

sounds to me like a geeks version of hell lol

just my $0.02

I can dream real big :D

Quad Opteron 448(I think thats the highest quad now)
2x 1GB of whatever the board supports per CPU for dual channel on each CPU = 8GB, maybe use more if the board can take it.
Whatever motherboard with an 8x AGP slot to go with that
nice U320 RAID 5 array with several 80ish GB 15.3k Cheeta's(wimpy sata raid  )
Radeon 9800XT ---> dual 22" Samsung LCD's
8X DVD+-RW drive
54x Mitsumi CD-RW
Audigy II
custom speaker setup with car audio amp's, subs etc. ( might need to space them from the monitors though ;))
oh... prolly liquid cool that all, would go for a prommy, but with 4 cpu's that might get tricky.
Haf to find a case for that too :D

Edit: And more fans than you can shake a stick at ;) I WANT this thing to make noise so it gets noticed! When someone calls on the phone they will ask me if I live next to an airport :D

If I could get F@H on the NEC Earth Sim. then that. :)

Well If I can get 2.6 GHz out of the mobile 2500+ tomorrow... and a second WD Raptor to do Raid 0... And a Raid 1 Array with w 320 Gb ATA 133's... and a stick of 512Mb XMS (third slot) to add to my 512... Oh and a 9800XT... I'll be picking up the 9800 Pro sometime in the near future... but the extra 128 Mb RAM is tempting.

Lack of AGP slot, but I spose PCI-X will soon fix that minor detail :o

Ok, here's my dream board for now.... no AGP, but I'll just keep her as a dedicated folding rig so it don't matter ;)

Why the hell would you want an Audigy, get an EMU1212M, much better DAC for sound processing, and in all reality, some one, Audigy is schnazy for ppl who don't know better, but go EMU or M-Audio for pro quality sound cards.

Well audigy is cheaper depending on what you plan to do. If your just a gamer then audigy is cheap. If your a sound editor or a band. Then you would wnat to go with emu.... I like my audigy 2 ZS. like 49.99 bestbuy lol

Oh my dreampc:

1x- Audigy 2 ZS platinum....
2x- 16 x 16 DVD-RW
2x- 48 x 52CD-RW Burner... If they ever exist.

Yep that'd be mine. But why not Audigy4? Definitely Phase Cooling all around. In a Mountain Mods Case. DFI NF4 SLi Board.

Of course Windows XP Pro 64. With all this power you want to be able to do plenty of gaming

Sticky Mick

Yeah! Could be a wise choice. Although I`ve stuck with 98S/E cos XP is a bit of a resource hog. Not sure what XP/64 is like though for support and stability.

10x- Seagate 10k 300GB Raid 5

Ditch RAID-5. Go RAID-10 since money is no problem. Also, I'd get 9xMaxtor Atlas 15K II's (8 for RAID-10 plus a hot spare) with maybe a couple of cold spares lying around. You can get some nice 9-unit drive enclosures to put them all in too :) That'd give you 588MB, and if you need more than that then I'd actually go with the new 500MB Seagates to keep things a bit quieter.

5x- 2GB corsair xms.

5x?!? Strange number. For the quad-Opteron motherboard you'll need either 10 or 16 sticks to fill it all up (which of course would happen for this computer). Remember to get the registered version of the RAM as well.

4x- A64 FX57

No can do, sorry. FX's can't do SMP, but that doesn't really matter that much as 4 Opteron 852's would probably do just as well. Or maybe 4 of the shiny new dual-cores ...

2x- 6800 Ultra 512mb SLI
1x- Audigy 4
2x- 16 x 16 DVD-RW
2x- 48 x 52 CD-RW Burner... If they ever exist.
4x- 24" LCD

No point with the 4 LCDs. You can only drive 2 off when you're in SLI mode, and need to physically get into the computer and mess around to change modes. Err, and there's the slight difficulty that there's no quad-Opteron PCI-E boards out there. There's not even one with AGP. They're all server boards with onboard video. The closest you'll get to this in reality would be two dual-core Opterons in a K8WE (the only dual-Opteron board besides the IWILL SFF that supports SLI).

Well, it still should be bound by reality, otherwise it becomes stupid. 50K RPM drives, 20GHz K8 and 8GHz DDR? Sure, it'd be nice, but it's not going to happen.
