for some reason in win 2000 ALL popups are disabled, which means i can't download virus software, i can't click on any links on this website, AND the links to open windows in the help menus for win2k do not work either!!
Also how do i disable messenger, it is the most annoying thing ever!
Also is there a way to not have max volume when win2k starts so my speakers do not crackle with the windows start sound.
P.S. win 2000 is terrible, i can't believe i switch to it from windows ME.

disable the messenger service in control panels > admin tools > services.
What do you mean all popups are disabled? IE doesnt get popups? Thats pretty strange, i know i get pleanty of popups in IE (thats why i use opera most of the time).
Volume SHOULD remember where it was from the last time, but that also could be more of a sound driver thing than a win2k thing.
Give it a chance. Personally i love win2k. I have been using it for over 2.5 years now and love it. Make sure you get all the updates. Service pack 2 in partitular fixed alot of problems (that was along time ago though, service pack 4 is out now).

Messenger..
Run -> Services.msc find messanger, right click on it. then select properties.
It has then a drop down for start up type. Select disabled. Then click ok. and then if the service isnt currently stopped once you did that then click on it once. it should show on the side Stop the service and restart the service. Click stop.
For the pop-ups try clicking the links again. I have mozilla on XP and i ave to click links on the forums twice so it will work. Also i can unblock this site from the pop-up list.
Also check your sound driver and see if there is one for 2000/XP. If its built in audio look on the manufaturers website. eg: Soyo, Asus, MSI, etc.
Have you ran windows update?

If you mean MS messenger then just go to program files and rename the Messenger file to MessengerOLD. The messenger service that the two people above me are talking about is not the same as MS messenger.

You'll live.
And install some service packs. If you installed the original Win2k... no wonder things are in flames.

wat win2k is the best, of course after Service Pack 4 lol but as said above disable messanger service and I recommend you should have a firewall
Also check for spybots & adware
