I just installed the cat 4.1s, which have the overdrive features, and the built in temp monitoring. my built by ATi 9600XT GPU is currently at 30C dead stock settings, on my desktop. under a load the card jumps to 40C[after games/apps clsoed it drops back to round 30C within 2 minutes]

I'm going to start overclocking in a bit, and was wondering based on experience/knowledge you guys here might have, whats a good temp range for GPUs to stop at?[asking in general whats a 'warning' area of temps for GPUs as i've heard peopls GF FX cards at insane temp amounts.

Anyone overclock their cards and have fairly accurate temperature read outs?! post em here for references for others :)[and me, lol].

wtf i didnt know they had a temp sensor in em.... does my saphire 9800pro have it so that i can see my temps too? I want to upgrade my heatsink cause i feel like my heatsink doesnt cool very well at all cause it doesnt get hot but i dont get that great of an oc

Nope, only the 9800XT and 9600XTs have built-in thermal monitoring. I think there were a couple of 9700Pros w/ thermal monitoring too, but they were 3rd party.

anyone else have a good estimate at what temps are in the DANGER zone on an ATi GPU?

my video card has been up to 64º c when i forget to bump up the speed of the fan while gaming, i only noticed some white square artifacts that time, and its still runs like a champ

I always thought that artifacts were the indicator that the GPU is running too hot. Am I wrong?

You can be cooled by liquid nirtogen and still have artifacts. It means the card is making errors, and it is commonly cause by heat, but thats not all.

I don't know what a safe temperature is either, but I can say that mine's jumped up to about 60 C without artifacts.

ok, thans for the temp. i'm going to try overclocking tomorrow, and ill see round what temp my card starts to artifact at.

Mines been to 61C for about 4 hours of gaming on stock hsf, if i played more it would probably go up some more.

how do you look at the temp? what did you use to monitor it?
