OK,I have been reading alot and still am not fully understanding how to actually overclock(need personal trainer)I have a gateway, this may be my problem,433 celleron,FSB is 66mhz,how exactly do i bump it up just a notch?how do i change the vcore?and is this what I have to do?I already figured out that I cannot change the FSB from within the BIOS.
Im wanting to just go high enough to learn how its done, since i will be not adding any extra cooling at this time, after i see if im able to learn, then comes the money spending.
As far as MoBo ????dont know what it is.
Asking for patience,thanx

Time to whip you into shape grizzly. Ok 1st of The word gateway spells trouble. So youve looked around the BIOS and cant find any FSB settings? well im not all too suprised. What your gonna wanna do it look at the tips and techniques section at the oc.com front page. There you will find the beginers guides and further still "beginers guide to overclocking". Read that. Then read your mobo manual. If theres no setting in BIOS perhaps there are jumpers on the mobo. The manual will tell you. I doubt there are vcore setting and because its an intel multiplyer is unimportant anyways. So read the Beginers guides, read the manual, read the forums, ask questions. And have fun.

This is where the problem begins,Gateway,as freindly as they would like you to think they are,DO not send you a manual telling you anything about the subject,i suspect they would rather you just buy a new system(now why would i feel this way)
This is the first PC i have ever owned and was happy with it.but the more i learn the less happy i am.
but if i could actually learn what the heck im doing im wanting to build my next, its looking as if this may be the only real option to getting the system i want.
I will dig around a little, maybe im missing something somewhere.

Just about all Retail brand Computer systems are not designed for overclocking and won't let you overclock. Yes, you're right, the Gateway PC you got won't be overclockable. yes.. reading the tips on how to overclock is important, but there isn't that much to it when it comes to overclocking.
With your branded PC, it would be good if you do some minor tweaking.. like using Cacheman 4.0 for the Hard drive cache optimization and get extra RAM.
And yes.. if you want to overclock, you'll have to build your own PC. But I tell you.. it can become real pain in the neck trying to make the home made system to work smoothly due to possible hardware(peripherals) incompetibility issue. Some builders dont have any trouble when they built the first one. Some go through hell. and I was the one who went through hell when I first built the rig..
I agree with the above posts. Most store bought PC's are not known for the ability to enhance their performance.
My advice to you would be to read and do as much research as you can and build your own.
MOST people do this with no problems at all. Just make sure that you do your homework, it's not rocket science. Acquire the parts that you'll need, then insert processor into socket "A".
hehehe lol
There you go..............as simple as "AMD"!

As long as you have acquired the mindset that the warranty was going to be violated anyway...perhaps you could pick up a motherboard that will allow you to overclock. Most of the existing components in your system will transfer over to the new board, and you will then have some additional ability to increase the speed. Of course, you could just give that computer to your kid and start from scratch.......
