Current setup:

ABIT BX133 w/96 megs PC100 memory
Voodoo3 AGP
ALPHA HSF with thermal grease, idles@26C
Sisoft Sandra burn in max temp 37C

Well, I was confused. I did alot of burning in, and I updated my BIOS to the latest version. The chip is stable at 900mhz @ 1.95volts. Im not sure if the BIOS upgrade made the difference, or the 8 hours of burn in:) All I know, is that it still wasnt this stable, before BIOS update.

The nightmare was having major errors at 800mhz!

It really sounds like a thermal issue. Usually when you increase the voltage slightly, you should gain stability. When you don't, it's a strong indicator that you have inadequate cooling. I realize that you are using an Alpha, but how are you measuring temps? Is the HSF properly seated? Do you have TOO MUCH arctic silver on the interface? You might want to check these things.

Also, check your IRQ's for conflicts. If you really don't have thermal issues left to deal with, then the problem might be more related to configuration than to heat.

Also, what changes to the BIOS settings have you made? In other words, what did you change in the BIOS that is different from the default settings?

How did you get the voltage higher than 1.75 V on the BX133 ?

The only Bios changes I made were in the Softmenu, i.e. the pci clock and agp clock, so that they were closer to their 33 n 66.

As for getting the BX133 above 1.75volts, I have a cCO stepped chip, and since the default voltage for this chip is 1.7volts, I can only assume thats why I can go as high as 1.95volts.

i'm using a Golden Orb and it seem to run fine at 930MHz. i had the same problem once but that was because i did not have enough thermal grease. at that point, after running 3D Mark 2001 for less then a minute the system locks up. after putting more grease, it work fine. probably should check that.
other than that, i notice that everybodys default voltage for the celeron II 600 is 1.7 volts but mine is 2.0 volts.i'm not sure if mine is a cBo or a cCo but is there a differents? i was told that i am not suppose to get the voltage higher then 2.0 volts which is why i drop the voltage to 1.85 volts. it seem to be running fine. either that or i have not really tested it enough :-)

Exactly how much grease should I use? I put on enough to cover the blue from view, but I would say it was a thin layer. From what I had heard, too much is a problem.

I dont think those little felt feet in the corners cause any problems do they? I wouldnt think they would..but hey, Im looking at all possibilites.

yes so i have heard that too much grease is a problem and the way u have said it, i think it should be enough. probably that is as far the chip want to go. i don't think it is a heat problem anymore. all the best then.
