i am currently running a celeron II 600 @ 930 MHz at 100 FSB. when i put the FSB to 112 i should get 1008 or something like that. at FSB 112 it boots up halfway and locks up. if i change from Golden Orb to the alpha HFS, will i be able to run it at a faster speed? i'm planing to get it like in 2 days time but i don't want to have to waste the money and not get the celeron running faster. thanx :)

if you ask me you are already wasting your money, like you said the Gorb is fine at 930mhz, so for an extra 9% speed you are buying an alpha heatsink, which may not stabalise it, there is no way of knowing without trying it may do it it may not, I would say there is a "better" chance of the alpha making it than a Gorb but it is not definate as some celeron 600's just won't make it

Well, I just bought an Alpha PAL 6035, that is modified, with 2 extra fans on the sides. I also added a case fan, and it still wont boot anything stable past 750ish. And I have a cCO stepped chip. My chip stays under 37C as far as I can tell, but besides being able to reach windows...nothing really stays stable for more then 10 minutes.

what voltages have you tryed?

For Scan69 I think i might help but you just never know untill you try like Phil said. For Spacepiston, what settings and what system do you have, alittle more info can go a long ways

The alpha is a way better cooler but that is probably not your problem. if your board has hardware monitoring you can check temps from the bios and get an idea if heat is screwing it up. probably that is just as fast as that chip wants to go

The Alpha may OR may not help you run a wee bit faster (in my case, it did), but it will DEFINITELY let you run the chip a lot cooler. Where you are already at 930/1.95v, reaching for 112FSB/1008MHz is really pushing it. I got 4 MHz FSB/36 MHz cpu speed (from 112 to 116 FSB) when I changed from the Gorb to the Alpha PEP66T, so, even if you were to duplicate that, I still don't really see that chip hitting 1 GHz, as that would put you at only 963 MHz.

It's arbitrary calling it a waste if it only helps you run cooler. Sure, the $$ could be spent elsewhere on your rig and make it run faster, but the Alpha just might make it run longer.

That was the reason I got the Alpha...the 4 MHz of FSB was an unexpected bonus. It certainly wasn't/isn't guarranteed.
