OK, I have two 40g harddrives and would like to put the faster one in my gaming rig. Is there anyway I can identify how fast the drives are without having to pull them out and look up serial numbers? I just need some sort of program or method that will tell me either 5400 or 7200.

You said you have to pull it out and put it in your gaming rig right? Doesn't that mean you need to pull them anyway?:D

If you look under 'Disk Drives' in Device manager you should see the model numbers of the hard drives. Write them down and then do a google search, you should quickly find out everything you ever wanted to know about the drives.

If you some reason the model number isn't there...get the manufactures diagnostic utility and run that; that will definately tell you the model number.

You can also get this info from the BIOS post screen on boot up. Immediately after drive detection is finished press the "PAUSE" key. This will freeze the screen. Write all the info down. That will also tell you which drive is on which channel. Just press ENTER to continue the boot process.

Easy answer to this....

Get both Hard Drives in a line.. one next to the other one... then race them... :D...

Would not work, my friend. Don't you know that 'slow and steady wins the race'?
