I currently have a P3-700 FC-PGA on an Abit SlotKET !!! on a Asus P3V4X. I want to get a new CPU cooler cause I'm using the one that the CPU came with and it's kind of small. I have one 128MB PC100 Kingston DIMM in Bank 0. I'm concered that a Golden Orb won't fit with the ram in bank 0. ANyone know if this is true? Or can I put the DIMM in another bank? Thanks.

I'm not intimately familiar with that mb, but I ran into the same problem with my rig when I upgraded from the Gorb, to the Alpha PEP66T.

I've done this on both my Soyo 6BA+III, and my Asus P3C2000 boards;

Simply move the ram over to the next open slot. It worked fine for me on both boards. Try it on yours before buying the Gorb, to see if it will work first. Just make sure you unplug the box before doing this, as ATX systems still have voltage running to the motherboard, even when the power is switched off.

MY opinion;

Don't even waste your time/money with the Gorb. That's a really good chip there....chances are quite high that you will be able to run it faster speeds than the Gorb will be able to keep it cool at. When I replaced the Gorb on my Celeron 600, I got much lower temps, and was then able to run slightly faster, as well. I highly recommend the Alpha PEP66T, but any other Alpha or GlobalWin hsf for this application will be vastly superior in cooling capabilities than the Gorb will ever be.

I see you've just joined us....welcome to the forum. Hope I have been able to help you here...
