i have been reading on your forum for about 3 weeks now i have read so much but i can not find my answer. here is my problem.

i bought a motherboard m7ncg 400 and had a amd duron 1 gig processor so i tried and tried everything to oc but couldnt do it. so i bought a xp2400 from a computer store and when i put it on my motherboard it reads it as an xp1800, what do i do to get it to read xp2400 or will it. i am not real knowledgable about this stuff so instead of burning up things i bought some stuff and thought you guys might shed some light on how i can get it to read what it is or better.

Its reading 1800+ becuase the speed is set wrong. I believe 1800+ is 11.5x133 and the 2400+ is 15x133 i believe. I think maybe your board's multiplier might not go that high or you will have to change it in BIOS.

Your FSB is probably defaulting to 100MHz, so the chip is running slower than it is supposed to be. You need to find the default FSB for the chip (which I believe is 133MHz) and then refer to your motherboard manual (if you don't have it , you can probably download it from the company that made it) for instructions to increase the FSB.

Yes you can overclock it but your success is entirely dependent on not just the cpu itself but also the rest of your system such as cooling, psu, mobo and ram! Also when overclocking if the bios allow only do it very gradually. BTW welcome to the forums:)

ok i really dont know, but on the other hand i bought today an xp2600 for either my wife or myself i really dont know which mobo will handle this better ive got the m7ncg400 and shes got msi i think, for some reason that msi dont see the 512mb ram chip but it sees the 256 they are both pc133, my m7ncg400 had i think its ddr 2 256 when it boots up its says speed is 266 but it shares 128mb ram with the geforce 4 built in video card,

any thoughts would be appreciative, and thanks for the welcome.

ok i put the xp2400 on my wifes changed the fsb to 133 and it works fine no problems but when i put the xp2600 in mine it ony reads 11.5 multiplier @133 fsb and sees an xp2000+ is that right, i tried changing the multiplier to 12.5 and nothing happened, so i tried changing the fsb and i had to reset the cmos and start over. any suggestions?

update, i think im starting to understand this i changed my mulitiplier to 12.5 and my fsb to 166 it sees the xp2600 so what happens if i change my fsb to 200 and my multiplier to 10?

ok that would not boot so i had to start over i just went back to the 12.5 and fsb at 166 but i did notice on the wpcuid it shows my multiplier is 11.5 but in bois its 12.5 and also my speed is less that 2000 which my xp2400 is more than my xp2600, so what i need to do, i also notice once i got it to boot up my mem freq speed changed for a second to 400 instead of 266

ok i did some searching and this is what i did, i overclocked my xp2600 to fsb 192 multiplier 12.5 and vcore to 1.825 sooo my next question would be what do i need to bring my temp down or what should the temp be right now its about 54 btw my original speed was about 2000 and with the new oc its 2200

ok i now have 2 pcs and this is there setup

1.
cpu-barton xp2600
mobo-m7ncg 400
ram-3 samsung ddr pc2700

default speed 1973 after i upped my fsb to 192 and my vcore its 2193 with temp on load 55 the highest ive seen so far. but i have noticed my multiplier is locked i can put it on 10 and it reads 11.5 and i can put on 12.5 still reads 11.5 i did up my fsb to 200 and it went all the way and showed a startup speed of 2300 but when win xp loaded i got a blue screen with a technical error of some sort. so heres my question why cant i get my multiplier to change,im sure its locked and if so can i unlock it and why did i get the blue screen

2.
cpu-throughbread(check spelling) xp2400
mobo-myncg400
ram- 1 samsung 512 pc2700

default speed was around 2023 after i upped my fsb to 152 and my multiplier to 152 and vcore to 1.85 its 2283 with temp being about 57. now its multiplier goes all the way to 18.
so heres my question, why is the multiplier unlocked on the xp2400 and not the xp2600

and many thanks to all for their posts and knowledge it has been real helpful
