View Full Version : core voltage
uhhh this maybe sounds stupid, but can anyone tell me how to get my core voltage higher.. a guy from my clas told me it was in the bios(award).. but there no option for that there..
i have a P/// 600@800
amazePC (VIA) am-693VS Mobo
thnx!

Hi, isn't stupid :-)
generally into the Bios you found, on the right panel, a voice called Frequency/Voltages control, enter into this section and search for something like Adjust CPU Voltage or Cpu Core Voltage, the only think that I don't know if it's into your Bios.
Have a nice O/C.
Dunno your mobo, but most regular mobos don't support core voltage adjustment. Most simply auto-detect the core voltage and that's it. But that's why I alway recommend slot 1 mobos. You can set the core to whatever you want on the slotket. Plus, the 100 MHz and 133 MHz jumpers can be used to fool any non-overclockable mobo into thinking your Celeron is a PIII running at 100 MHz, or that your 100 MHz PIII is really a 133 MHz version. So, really, any slot 1 mobo is overclockable. But socket 370s are another problem. There's always pin taping, but it's somewhat risky and I don't have a link for that.

Excuse me DaveB but I can do it with MSI 6337 I815E Pro (FC-PGA) throught Bios, what I don't understand?
sorry my mobo is :
Extended Mainboard Data
Manufacturer Lucky Star
Model AK-693VS-E2
Serial Number 03/08/2000-692-656A-2A6LKL1FC-00
Chipset VIA VT82C693 Apollo Pro Plus Chipset
is it possible to update the bios in any way to make me change the voltage?

This is the BIOS page for Lucky Star (http://www.lucky-star.com.tw/technical/bios/via.htm#SLOT-1 M/B) Motherboards. The model number you list isn't on the list. Perhaps this is what the board is reporting on the BIOS screen at startup? Look on the mainboard itself for the model number. I suspect it is something different.
If your board will not support voltage mods, then you have the option of pin wiring. For that you will need to know what the stepping and default voltage are, and we can direct you from there.
hmmm im getting all different readings from programm's wcpuid says i have a VIA mobo and SiSoft Sandra says it isa lucky star.. so i have to know fore shore.. wouldnt want to scr*w up my system! any suggestions?
I've never even heard of that motherboard. You will find that the best mobos for overclocking tend to be brands like Abit and Asus (sure there are others that will work fine too, but I'm most familiar with those two). Maybe it's time to consider an upgrade? If not, look for "user defined" voltage setting in the BIOS or look at your manual to see if there are jumpers on the motherboard that will change voltage. If not, you have to resort to the "wiring the CPU pins" trick to fool the board into thinking the chip has a higher default voltage.
yeah i know... so the best thing to do is a new mobo... asus or abit... okay thnx !
