Ok great...I had my SATA 160GB into two partitions A 100 and a 50, because its not a true 160 :(

Anyway...something happened to the 50gb, I dont care..I dont need the stuff off of there. I do however, need the stuff off the 100GB one. Windows wont give it a drive letter, disk manager on the top window will still see the 100GB partition and how much free space it has. At the bottem window, it shows drive healthy NTFS.

but I cant do anything to it.. except for delete it.

Partition Magic 8, will see the whole drive as Type 44, not NTFS or anything. Partition Magic 8 cant do anything but delete and format the drive.

Please help!!!!

Do you have a second drive you can temporarily put in there? try http://www.ntfs.com/products.htm and get the ntfs dos reader, there's instructions on the site for how to use it. Maybe that'll help you recover your files.

Your the man, thanks for the help

I am at work and haven't tested it yet...but if that program doesn't work, they have a link to

http://www.partition-recovery.com/

and that sounds real promising!!

Thanks for the help...I will be up alllll night if I have to!

I dont have a 2nd HDD big enough yet, but there is really only about 60-70GB of stuff I want to recover...Family pics/movies, drivers/system updates, MP3s, my gf is big on photoshop/avatars..

Again, thanks because I was getting ready to format and my girlfriend would have killed me...the only thing I had backed up was the family pics/movies!!

Best wish on recovering your hard drive my brother in the same situation, he has an 80gb hard drive, partitioned to 60gb and 20gb however he did something to delete his 60gb partition and I wasn’t able to pull up his 60gb in fdisk or disk manager. Btw tell how the me how the program goes.

All of the dos based programs wont work..I dont know what to do! One program said it was 00x44 file system, what is that?!? Windows can still see my 100GB partition and even the name of it (files) and how much free space is left.

attached it what the disk manager looks like.

Sorry i don't know of any freeware that will get your stuff back, but if it is worth it here (http://downloads-zdnet.com.com/3120-20-0.html?qt=recover+ntfs&tg=dl-2001) are some downloads that you can use to see if the data is recoverable. You can try them free, so if it sees the files and you think one is worth the money it wouldn't be a total loss.

Maybe you want to try your disk in another computer.
Sometimes those things just go weird.
I'd say also try fdisk, it should be able to change partition types.
I think www.bootdisk.com had a winXP bootdisk with fdisk with ntfs support on it, but don't quote me on that.
