Yes just use the software from the drive manufacturer.

you can either do it two different ways. If you have ghost, you can pull an image from your 40 and throw it to your 120. If you're not running ghost, you'll have to unhide all files and folders, and operating system files, and copy it over that way. If you're running xp, there's a wizard that'll copy everything over.

I think it would be best to put a fresh install on the 120gb, then copy your data from the 40gb. That will produce the best results, IMO. You will have to redo settings, but I think it is worth it. A new drive is a great excuse to start from a clean slate.

If you really want to copy the drive over, you can download Maxblast from the Maxtor website, it should provide a Drive Copy function.

The program Lanman31337 is talking about is the 'File and Settings Transfer Wizard'. But it only works for copying settings/files from an old computer to a new one...not from an old drive to a new one.

Don't reformat the 40gb drive...

Install windows on the NEW 120gb drive, then COPY your important data from the 40gb drive. You won't lose anything.

Maxtor provides a bootable ISO image of Maxblast on their support site.

you can get it to do it going from one drive to another you just need to export the file to another drive then use it to import the settings.
