View Full Version : Better chances with a Celery 566 or 600?

I am going to buy either a 566 or a 600 Celeron for my Abit BH6 (decided to keep the NV bios). Does anyone know which chip has a better chance of hitting the 100 MHz FSB? I know that the OEM chips are a crap shoot...some good, some bad. Have heard some say they get a "dud" that won't O/C well.

Check the CPU database. You can see what luck people are having. I just got my Celeron600to900, 100mhz fsb, if its any consolation.
Every chip is a crapshoot. Each one individually overclocks differently.
As far as which of the two (566/600) has a better chance at 100FSB, the answer is both do. Frankly, these are the two best choices of the Celeron line. I've had quite a bit of good fortune with the cC0 600 Celerons, and others have had grief....again it depends on the individual chip in question.
Wild Andy would tell you to go with a cB0 566. Everyone will probably agree that either would do well.
Really, either one is almost a shoe in for 100 FSB. Mine (listed in my "sig") made it to 117 FSB......this is a bit better than most, though. Kind of an exception, rather than the rule.
If this were Vegas, I think the line would be "pick".

The 600 has a multiplier of 9, the 566 is 8.5. so, given equal overclockability, the 600 would get a bit higher up the MHz ladder towards (and possibly past) the 1 GHz mark.
I would say they both stand a good chance at getting to a 100mhz fsb as long as they are cCO stepping chips, I would got for the 566 though as the celerons generally all have the same limit but with slower default chips you can have the fsb higher to get to it, for example both chips could probabally easily get to 950mhz, with the 566 this would mean a 112mhz fsb but only a slightly above 5mhz fsb on the 600 so the oc'd 566 would outperform it slightly, 950mhz is usually about the limit for celemines but some reach over 1ghz and you have about the same chance of either making it but again the 566 would perform better becasue it would have a higher bus speed
Hmm, oh yeah, but what about the people too dejected and embarrassed to post in the CPU database? "Hello friends, look what a useless overclocker I am!" [Looks down towards pants in shame]
How will you know what kind of chip you are getting online? Would they bother to tell you?
I'm in the same situation with a 633, wondering if it will do 950. If it only did 83fsb, would be c-r-a-p

Both are a good chance @ 100FSB. I went with the 566 because at the time it was like $20-$25 cheaper. Mine is a Cbo, and I've noticed on the database the Cbo 566's are more prevalent. If ya go 600, then you'd want the Cco
If your goal is to hit 100 MHz fsb, then either 566 or 600 chip will usually make it, but the 566 will have a slight advantage of guaranteed sucess. If you're interested, send me an email. I have an extra C-566 CPU for sale that I can guarantee will overclock to 952 Mhz. I've actually benchmarked it at 978 MHz before, but you need good cooling and the right components.
