S3 DeltaChrome

What does everyone know about the S3 DeltaChrome GPU? From the looks on paper its not a bad mid-range level performer. But as I'm sure most of you know, S3 has a record for putting out utter garbage. :0 So if you have any links to reviews or personal experience, please post away. I need to settle a bet with my brother, who seems to think that this GPU is gonna crush the midrange market. :D

It has decent performance compared to whats out now, but its getting extremely close to when ATi and nVidia will release the next line, and that will knock it around probably

well from 1 reveiw i read (forgot the site) the s3 delta is not on par wit the 9600 pro but it was ok, the preformance was ok, although...the image qualtity was horrible, they said it could be due to bad drivers but...maybe not, your right S3 does have a record for puttin out bad stuff. although the S3 isnt really great for preformance i think the review said the video card has a built in video encoder to help the CPU to format videozz...but im not sure, and that may attract some consumers

Exactly, now here's a company I do NOT trust. I remember my first 3D card was an S3 product - it wouldn't even run the included DEMO correctly :eek:

The performance is around the Geforce FX 5600 Ultra. Also it has "free" anisotropic filtering (http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/video/display/s3-deltachrome_19.html), keeping in mind that the image quality totally sucks. It does show that there is reasonable potential with this chipset, (unlike the XGI Volari series, for example).

The reason I am asking about this, is because of the VIA Apextreme console that won at this years CES. My bro thinks it'll be the best thing since the VCR. But I don't see how it will last with this crappy GPU.

Agreed. It seems to be just a slow computer with a few glorified features. At least the price is somewhat decent (plus the name is hilarious :D )

The card is very lacking.
No al ability just to name my one main beef.
I wouldn't even touch that card with a 10 foot pole for fear of its bad performance/image quality somehow rubbing off on my own pc.
