In the system in my sig, I'm having trouble pushing the cpu to 2.5GHz. The system runs (2.4GHz at 1.73V) folding-stable using "only" an Enlight 300W PSU rated 12V@13Amps. The motherboard is a Soltek 75MRN-L Nforce2 which uses the +12V line for Vcore. I'm using the 4-lead +12VATX line.
However, if I bump the cpu up to 2.5GHz at 1.83V the computer will be very stable for 10-15 minutes then reset as though I'd pressed the reset button. It was repeatable. I bumped the Vcore up to 1.86V thinking maybe it was a stability issue. The other-wise stable system would reset every 5-7 minutes repeatably.
I thought it was the 300W power supply holding me back. I bought an antec SLK3700AMB case and removed the 350 watt antec SL350 PSU (rated 12V@17Amps) and installed it in place of the Enlight 300W unit. I checked stability at 2.4GHz; folding stable as always. I bumped it up to 2.5GHz and it started reseting like before; apparently the PSU wasn't the problem. Temperatures weren't a problem with the watercooling. I've ran the cpu 10C hotter for days stable and the cpu temp protection circuit doesn't kick in until 75C.
Does this sound like the motherboard VRM is limiting the overclock?
