I want to lap the heatsink on the northbridge, but i dunno how to remove it.

I have an ABIT mobo, and the heatsink sorta has two spring buttons on it.
i don't think model matters, but it is VL6

Forget lapping your stock northbridge, it's much better to go to your local PC store and buy a heat sink fan that is much larger cut it down if you have to, most of the time this will not cost more then 10 dollars, I spent five on mine, you can lapp the new one DO NOT lapp the nortyhbridge itself. the nylon pins your talking about can be removed it is best to take your MB out for this you want to put a little pressure on the back of the pins be very careful not to hit the back of the MB as this may break the MB now that you have your stock heatsink out you can attach your new heatsinkfan with double sided thermal tape or you can use JB weld but it will be permanent if you do this and it will not leave room for a larger heat sink fan for your CPU if you ever decide to upgrade. If all this sounds like a bit to much you can remove your original heatsink and apply a good brand of thermal grease and reinstall you could lapp but you will not notice any difference.

the buttons will be on the backside of the mobo. but, this should not make a huge difference in results. You are at the max of your celey's ability.

I personally use a pair of side cutters and snip the clips to get the sink off. It's much safer and easier.

as far as putting a new one on - I use a blob of paste in the middle and 4 blobs of super glue (one on each corner).

OR I use artic silver epoxy.

I highly suggest the crazy glue\side cutter method,it was quick and easy.

I've been seeing chipset coolers at the computer shows lately..and they have the same tabs, and clips, with a fan on it...at $5.00 U.S. I can't pass it up, and if they have any at the show, I will pick one up, and take a pic of it and upload it here....only I will put it in Cooling Topic.
BTW, this thread should be in intel motherboards, or cooling.....FYI. Peace
