View Full Version : Why go Slower and pay more then faster and less?

I don't understand. People know that faster chips are out there, they want a new system, a fast one, and they get a P3 700e. Not a bad choice but for 130 dollars, it is too expensive. A new motherboard for intel is about 150 dollars ( a good one). Together, that is 280 dollars, for a computer that will maybe goto 1050.
Now when you look at amd, it is way different. For 150 dollars, you can get a 1 ghz Thunderbird processor (266) AXIA that will do 1.4ghz+ air cooled. For 220 dollars, you can get a 1.33ghz Thunderbird processor (266) AXIA that will do 1.5ghz+ air cooled. Water cool them, and add another 75 mhz or so. A motherboard (the best) I will KK266 will cost you about 125. Now if you decide to get a 1 ghz (1.4ghz+) it will cost you 275 dollars. If you want to go all out (thats what i like HEHE) and get a 1.33ghz (1.5ghz+) it will cost you 345 dollars. Look at the price/performance ratio, AMD ROCKS THE HOUSE!
I'd much rather get 1.5ghz for 345 dollars then get 1050 for 280
And for money limited people like myself, getting 1.4ghz+ for 275 Is great, and when you get the money, get a watercooling/pelitier kit and add another 100+ mhz to your setup.

If you've posted this here to start a debate, we have a debates forum. This is the Intel section.

I am not trying to start a debate, i am just trying to Show people what to get. I wish someone could have told me, and helped me before i got my Crappy @$$ Celeron II 700. I like intel, I always have, just that there Core has run out, and when a new one comes out, i sure they will head-to-head with AMD.

hehe.. well said, Shadow
Yeah, I also need to remind myself to post subjects in appropriate forum section.

I don't have any problem with your offering advice whatsoever. I just ask you post your opinions and advice in the proper forum.

Hey,
Weren't you the kid who keeps buying all the intel overclocking duds not too long ago?!?!?
How is it you are now an "expert" of AMD processors???
As far as someone "helping" you....WE DID !! YOU would not listen to reason, and kept buying oll of those intels. Usually got them BEFORE asking in here if you should get them, too.
When the 2.1 Northwoods come out, are you gonna jump ship back to intel??

Mr B
Well, I've built both Intel and AMD systems, and they're both good. I'm running a PIII 700 @ 994 MHz on a Soyo SY-6BA+IV and I recently built my daughter a T-Bird system. IMO opinion, the PIII system is more stable and more compatible. In the T-Bird rig, I couldn't O/C my old GeForce DDR card as much as in the PIII BX rig. And occasional weirdness occurs, while my PIII is rock stable. So, I'm happy as is.
The new 266 MHz T-Birds are interesting. I just built a rig with an Iwill KK266 and 1.2 GHz 266 CPU for a guy at work. It runs nice, but really hot. He had to pay extra for an AMD approved 340W supply and I'm letting him plug in his SCSI cards and whatever. I don't like VIA chipsets, and that's what you get with AMD. The new ALi MAGiK 1 isn't very good either. The AMD 760 looks promising, but AMD always drops their chipsets after 3 to 6 months. I have no need to go further than 1 GHz. Since gaming is the most stressful thing I do on it, the video card is the limiting factor at that speed. My GeForce2 GTS won't do significantly better on a faster T-Bird rig than I can run right now.
So, get what you want. But there's just no reason to crap all over people with Intel stuff by posting in this forum. I post in the AMD forums also, but not to put down AMD systems. Just to help out, if I can.

well said, Mr.B and Dave B. I agree with what Dave B said about the little lack of incompatibility, lack of stability in the temperature department, and high power consuming AMD chips. I'm not trying to Bash AMD, I'm just speaking out what I have seen as truth.
I said about the T-birds and Durons temperature part.. in this forum section of "Why Exactly the Everyone Bash the P4" by Aod, refer to my last post there.. it's interesting.
