Building a rheostat.

How difficult would it be to build a 6volt -> 12 volt adjustible rheostat to control my Panflo L1A? A rheostat is just a variable resisitor right? I would just need one that would provide enough resistance to adjust between 6 and 12 correct?

yep

if you goto radio shack and get a 5w reo that should be all you need

that and some soldering skills
