I picked up a pair of working Celeron 733MHz with heatsink/fan for next to nothing. My current PC doesn't support Celeron but I'm going to replace it soon anyway, The question is would Celeron 733 be a good overclocking canditate or am I better off looking for a different cpu/mobo combo?

If the Celeron is good, what would you suggest for motherboard that can use it? Both C733 is a PGA and not Slot 1 but a slot 1 adapter can be found for about $10 these days.

Better yet, a dual CPU, both c733 overclocked??? Maybe I could finally start cleaning out my backlog of unfinished SETI data as it currently takes about 110 hours per data.

Have you checked the CPU database? Says the average overclocked speed of 733's is 925MHz, but that is with only 5 posts there.

If you already have them I don't see why you shouldn't use them!

As for a mobo, check out the Abit VP6

Good luck!

do not expect much from the 733 celeron. as it is on a 66 FSB, your goal would be to get it to 100 FSB right? but the odds of that woking are very low. why? the 733 has a multiplier of 11. SO we take 11 x 100 and that givers us 1100. Intel desnt have any chips that can run at this speed so,.,,, Dont expect to get their very easy..

but if your MB has 90 FSB that may be possible as that is 990 and at that speed your PCI and AGP still runs at spec.( for PCI 30 MHz not 33 , yes that is still in spec, rember the 60 FSB /2 = 30, hell thier was even a 50FSB /2 =25 when PCI slots were just coming out)

SO you may have some luck at the lower FSB speeds but dont expect to get anything over 100FSB,,,well unless you got some nice H2O cooling going for you
