hi there, a friend of mine has this camera panasonic pv-dv953 nad he is wondering what the best software to use with it is. Currently he has Avid Xpress Pro. is there anything else that would be better?

Depends on what you need it to do. Also if you want freeware or shareware.

Im a big fan of Adobe Premiere but it come with the usual Adobe price tag.

im a HUGE fan of the ulead studio. Nothing like adobe, which i dont like for video

Windows Movie maker 2 [free for XP users] --pretty good basic video editing program.....BASIC it is ;)
Vegas Video 4 is also nice, but i THINK is a bit pricey.
I use Ulead Video Studio 6.0 that came with my dvd burner and it works very well. Special effects, audio voice over, add music tracks, add stills etc. Fairly easy to use, didn't take much putzing to figure it out. I capture my vhs tapes with an ati card and it's software to an mpg, then use Ulead to edit and compile to dvd format, then burn dvd with Nero.
