Is it possible to remove and replace the fan and heatsink from the boxed intel cpu.
I have noticed that my cpu tends to become a little hot and I want to buy a new heatsink and fan.

Yes, you may. I read a thread awhile back that talked about using screws to get the plastic cover off without damaging it. I will look and post a link. I assume you are talking about the Slot 1 cpu?

you need to go to OCs home,
on the main page it has Tips & Techniques,
go to CPU Reviews and Tips,
towards the bottom it has PIII Heat Sink Removal

i was wondering if anyone has seen the plastic clips that intel makes for retail boxed heatsinks? on and off with fingers. its plastic so wont shear off your slugs and uses all 4 slugs i got one and replaced what i had (another intel clip) and now my sink sits PERFECT.

yay! it also gets much hotter now... yay yay!

Haha.. I should've known. I ripped the retail HSF off from the cpu cartridge and got all messy before I realized there's way to do take care this.
