Ok, In the cobwebs in my deteriorating mind I remember something about blocking/cutting or tapeing a contact on PII's in order to overide the internal multiplier. Can ANYONE guide me to this info so I can read up on it again? Which contact? how to identify the proper contact.
Thanks,
Potluck
ok all p2's made before august 98 were unlocked but most were multiplyer limited, so you could use lower but not higher, it wasn't until about the 333 that they were completelt locked. I also think that on the limited chips made before august 98 that if you do the b21 trick it unlocks the multiplyer, on my p2 233 from august 98 doing this indeed disabled the lock, before it would only allow a 3.5X and 2.5x downwards, 3x and above 3.5x wouldn't work, but doing the b21 trick allowed all multiplyers, I did this on a bx board so I could run at a 100mhz fsb so I am not sure if it would disable the lock on an lx or not but can't hurt as pin b21 is only listed as being for bsel (either 66mhz/100mhz) so try it.

No sir. The B21 trick had nothing to do with the multiplier, it simply had to do with High/Low select.
ooh I am sorry, I mean I have a chip that I have done it on and it worked and read on other sites about it working on chips made in august 98 and before but obviously this is all wrong as you so confidently pointed out, you are correct that it does to do with bsel being high or low, but a side effect on some chips is that it disabled the multiplyer lock/limit

Oh yes, I do remember B21 being the contact now that you mentioned it, Can you guide me to a site where this is discussed and explained in detail?
Thanks,

Tomshardware does a great job of explaining it.

all the b21 trick does is if you have a pII 66mhz fsb processor it would make the mobo think it was a 100mhz cpu. gurus correct me if im wrong
how many times do I have to say it, on some p2's,ones made in august 98 and before, it also disables the multiplyer, I had a p2 233 from august 98 and by doing the b21 trick on it it would run on 4x and 3x mutliplyers which it wouldn't before
