After installing new Koolance EXOS water cooling to my computer, I ripped of a component on my Connect3d Radeon 9800 Pro. Got careless when plugging the external power to the card. Stupid mistake, but done is done :(

It is located to the left of the external power contact, have 8 legs with a black heat sink. It's printed "Q8" beside this component.

Does anyone know what component it is, and the data/specifications for it, so that I can buy a new one and solder it in place?

That's what it looked like. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that's a programmable chip, and it was programmed specificallly for your card. You *might* be able to get one thru ati, but i'm not sure.

I hope you have good luck in trying to get a replacement chip. You may be able to reconnect the old one if your good with a soldering iron and I think you should go spend a few looking at the O/C Forum rules and revise your post before a mod dose it for you ;) (back-ups OK but pirated = no no)

I managed to interpret the inscription on the chip:

P33AB
FOS
6912

Now I just have to find a company that have this in stock and is willing to ship to Norway. I would appreciate any help in this matter.

Hey poker68, the chips come blank. There's nothing on them. They need to be programmed to do a specific thing. You can't play pirated playstation games on your computer. I had one in my playstation ages ago so i could play my japanese import of DBZ final bout. The type of chip is a 12c508a, if that helps you any.

It is NOT a programmable chip. It is a SOIC-packaged MOSFET that controls the low side of a switching regulator. By the looks of it you ripped off the legs so soldering it back on is going to be next to impossible. Don't power on the card without that chip attached!

I will find a datasheet....

EDIT: This is NOT about Playstation hacking, so Mods please do not close the thread. The 1st reply is wrong and I think the guy's comment after that is sarcasm.

Bleh, no luck. Poker68, can you take a picture of the markings on the chip? There may be a manufacturer mark that I can recognise.

First of all: The postings of "lanman31337" is not ment to be taken seriously. At least I didn't. However, if he meant what he said about replacing the chip with a playstation chip, I'm impressed that a guy with this intelligence is able to build and operate his computer.
But I'm sure it was a joke.

L337 M33P: Sorry, but the chip and marking is so small I would need a microscope with camera to be able to take a picture of it.
But I can see a marking that looks like an italic F: F

I found a company that have the chip at http://www.usbid.com/ (search for P33AB 6912), but according their FAQ they have a minimum order size of $500. :bang head
However, I will send'em a mail just in case...

Still no luck - Might've been Fairchild but no hits.

Have you considered returning the card for repair? You can yell at ATi to replace a £0.5 part on a £200 video card :p. They will most likely charge you for shipping and the cost of repair but it isn't exactly hard - replace 1 chip from the spare parts bin....

Finally a breakthrough in my research for this chip.:D
I posted a question in an electro tech forum, and got a reply that the component is a dual MOSFET from Fairchild FDS6912. I also found the data sheet here: http://www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/FD/FDS6912.pdf

Now I just have to find out where to buy it!
L337 M33P, do you know a store in UK that sell these chips?
