I have a Celeron 700 and a Abit bx133 raid board coming in. I also ordered a Golden Orb Fan.

What speed should I be able to OC to without Major Mods??

About 700....

You aren't gonna like what I'm about to say.

The C700's BY AND LARGE don't o/c worth a darn. That multiplier of 10.5x is just too high. No matter how many volts you can push thru these chips, they just aren't successful overclockers.

The Gorb is not a good choice for cooling an overclocked cpu. There's just not enough metal in the sink to carry away the extra heat generated by raising the vcore, and overclocking.

Ok, maybe I was a bit harsh with the first line...you MIGHT get it to run in the neighborhood of 900. These chips have an incredibly hard time of it reaching 100 FSB, and when they fall short, the PCI bus is so far out of spec, that you wind up dealing with expansion cards that don't work properly, or worse, hard drive data corruption.

Where it's already ordered, it's a bit late in the ballgame to ask wether or not it will overclock well. You are just gonna have to find out when you put it all together.

Mr. B speaks the truth for the most part. But, I have yet to see any Celeron that won't overclock to at least 75 MHz bus speed. This would give you about 788 MHz total clock speed, which a Golden Orb should handle, no problem. On most motherboards, the next FSB setting is 83 MHz, if so, then this might be a problem with your setup. The PCI bus will be way out of spec and might cause problems. You'll probably have to raise voltage for stability, which starts to press your luck with the Golden Orb, etc...

if memory server me correctly you should have 90 FSB on that MB right?
hit 90 FSB your PCI is back in spec and you got 945MHZ of fun. i

I have a 700 celly running at 80 FSB right now. Have had it up to 85 FSB (at default Vcore of 1.7v) but backed it down untill I get a bit better cooling going. It's not a bad chip but the 10.5 multiplier is harsh. 8-)

<begin rant>
I just don't get it...people go out and buy the best mobo they can find, they get pc150sdram, the fastest video card, and put in a low end chip like the celly...I mean it's like going out and buying a Cadillac, and puting a yugo motor in it...you will never get to cruising speed that way.
If all you are looking for is to put up numbers on some database, then the celly is a good cheap choice, but if you want to get things done, and not wait too long for things to finnish, the celeron/duron just won't cut it.
And if I was to go the cheap way, I would still avoid the cellie..I would get a duron...the duron smokes the cellis in bandwidth. </end rant>
Mr.B is correct, that you should put the gorb on your mantle, and use it for a conversation piece, instead of a cooler.

Well, I certainly didn't mean to **** anyone off and make them Go off on a rant. Truth is a ordered the 700 first cause it was the highest Chip I could afford that I KNEW would work in my current MB. But the day after I ordered it I found an outlet for the old MB and could get a new One and ordered the BX133. So I'll stick with the Cel-700 for a little while if thats ok.

What does that Signature above say? BE EXCELENT TO EACH OTHER? Well Practice what you preach man.
And how about an alternative for the G-orb.

Well, let me say this, i have had a Celeron II 700 for about 8 months now. Conclusion, i got it stable @ 997 2.4v ( DONT TRY THIS!!!) It runs at a reasonable 956 @ 2.05v (usually have it on that unless benchmarking and use 997). 10.5 multiplier kills the performance no matter what speed your at. If you have a problem with overclocking your Celeron, write me an email, or message, and i will sell you mine. I am going to build a killer 1.5ghz Tbird system soon.
