I have a Quantex, who recently went out of business, notebook computer, which is the same as a dell inspiron 7000. They were both manurfactured by Compal for use by Quantex and Dell. I can boot up, sometimes, and I can even get as far as the windows 98 startup screen on a good day but thats as far as it goes. It shuts down imediatly afterwards. No reboot, just like you pulled the powercord. I have tested the hard drive on another notebook, it is good. I have tested my power cord, and it is also fine. I had a friend that told me that it might be the power supply or some type of electrical problem. Have any of you ever seen or heard about this and if so have any information that would assist me.

Have you tried popping it's "miniture" case open and checking for dust. Dust can be a major heat problem though notebooks usually don't have those problems, you might want to check for that just incase.
