Let me try and explain this as clear as possible. I have tried three times to install my ATI 9800np onto my computer with XP pro. Here is what happened:

1st: i was able to install the drivers and software with the supplied discs successfully, however when my computer rebooted, it got errors after errors when trying to logon. So i reformatted and used the onboard graphics temporarily.

2nd: i was told to try the omega drivers and totally disregard the drivers and software that came with my card. i downloaded the omega drivers for the catalyst 3.7s. The install went fine and when my computer restarted to perform the test, it froze and i rebooted manually. After that there were weird artifacts on the screen. sometimes it would freeze when logging on but i was able to log in once. i checked the display properties and it said it listed my video card as a 9800-secondary. i uninstalled the omega drivers.

3rd: i decided to try the drivers/software that came with the card one last time. This time was even worst. i experienced more artifcats while loggin on and freezing. so i took the card out and used the onboard video card again. this time i was succeful in logging in and when it logged in, the ATI panel on the desktop was there but windows gave me an error saying that the card wasn't present.

lastly i tried to perform a system restore prior to installing the omega drivers but windows was unsuccesull with the system restore.

so what do i do now? if anyone who has similar problems or ideas it would be greatly appreciated and thanks for reading. below are my system specs...

Intel D865gbf mobo
P4 3.0ghz
1gig corsair xms pc3200 (dual channell)
120 WD SATA
Windows XP PRO w/ service pack 1
ATI 9800np (with samsung 3.3ns) memory

thansk again

'Tis the integrated video which cause you much pain. Go to ye old device manager and disable. Shutdown, install ye Radeon, then boot up again and load the drivers. Now thy good card should work artifactiveless. After installing, try reenableing the integrated, if artifacts return, disable it.

after hours of toying and rebooting i was able to get some ati drivers to install and recognize my video card. but it didn't install the ATI control panel. so i then downloaded the omega 3.9 and 3.7 drivers/control panel. both installs went fine however when the system rebooted to perform the tests, after logging in, windows would freeze. i rebooted and after that i was never able to get past the log in window. it would either freeze after loggin in or before that at the "welcome" screen. luckily i set a system restore point before installing any of the omega drivers. oh yeah i also tried the ATI catalyst 3.9 drivers i believe and those didn't work obviously. i tried to reenable the onboad graphics like you mentioned mR. STupid but couldn't find it in the devices anymore. also i noticed that in the devices menu, under "probe devices" there is a "radeon probe driver" that needs a driver but i dont have one for it. if anyone has any ideas please please please help. i've been at this for 2 days and countless hours. thanks in advance

Have you tried formatting and reinstalling windows with the Onboard Graphics disabled? Disable it in the BIOS and run the whole computer off the 9800. DON'T USE THE DRIVERS ON THE DISC use only the latest that way everything is fresh. Sometimes overlapping driver installs cause the problem.

This may seem a bit obvious, but check to see if the fan is spinning on your card.

LOL yes it is very much spinning. i think im going to have to resort to reformatting and starting with a clean install again. after looking in the manual again i noticed that it says to use the power cable that came with card and connect it with your hard drive then to your psu. right now i have it plugged into the psu along with some fans. should this be a problem?

How about disabling the onboard video from the bios?

Run a separate Molex line from the PSU to your card and your card only. SilverSinkSam had some trouble with his when he had anything else on it. Must be insufficient noise supression :eh?:
