I joined seti along time ago and have been using the same e-mail address. I also jioned the seti overclockers team here a while back. I used to have several extra computers so i'd run seti instead of making them useless. Recently i've gotten ahold of some extra old computers and a monitor.

On these extra machines I'm running freebsd 5.2 release. First i'm wondering if i'm still in the seti overclockers team... if i joined awhile back, how would I find out if i'm still in it? I've only done 40 WU so far but now that I have these machines I'll be able to churn some more out.. maybe hit 100+.

two main questions.

1. whats the best way to run seti under freebsd- to get the most out of the machine in freebsd

2. how can I find out if i'm still on the seti overclockers team?

oh btw I have a 800mhz pentium 3 that has been running seti for the past 2 months straight, a 400mhz e-machine that has been running it on and off, and a 266 mhz laptop thiknpad 600 that I want to dedicate to some work units!

You're a member until you tell Berkeley you want to leave the team. You can go to the team list and look for your name in the list: http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/stats/team/team_94265.html

nice i'm still a member! right now I have a 800mhz p3 and a 400mhz celeron crunching for overclockers seti.

I know its not alot but it just feels like i'm accomplishing more if i run these machines on something as opposed to sitting there.

Both setups have freebsd 5.2 currently. I know if I start it up it will automatically start working on seti, but it doesn't seem like its a very high priority. How long should it take an 800mhz 3 to crunch an average unit?

Why seti? Because theres so much BS in the world and if I could speed up seti or help find life beyond planet earth it would be a victory in the fight against the evil empire!:p

okay! I figured out the best way to run seti in freebsd. I just compiled the seti in the berkley ports tree and I knew if i typed xsetiathome in run in x-windows that it would run it... but what i didn't know is that it automatically starts up during boot. So I can leave it in consol mode w/o even loading X-windows & seti is still running.

I know cause I logout of X-windows when i'm 30% a work unit, i left it there and came back awhile later and it was at 40%. It seems alot faster outside of X also!

With 800mhz p3 and 400mhz celeron running outside of X w freebsd maybe i'll be able to pull 4.5 wu a day.
